We’re back with another Sartorial Geek of the Week!

This week’s #5FandomFriday is a shoutout to online communities, my actual favorite thing in this world.
If you’d told me back in 2017 that Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle would crack my top three list of movies that year, I’d have promptly spat my…
This week, our theme is 2019 releases. These aren’t necessarily my favorite movies from 2019, but they’re the ones I have the most feelings about.
It seems like we’re constantly getting new remakes of the Great Detective’s adventures. From period dramas to modern reimaginings, hospital dramas to direct-to-video iterations with robot dinosaurs. It can feel, quite rightly, like we’re tapping out the character, or like we run the risk of “getting him wrong” the longer we go. And while no one iteration is going to appeal to everyone, there’s actually a lot more room for changes and reinterpretations than we may think.
Liz and I are back together again, recapping some of our favorite things from 2019 and talking about what we’re excited about in 2020.
There’s always something so thrilling about feminist re-imaginings of great historical stories, and & Juliet is no exception.
I highly recommend checking out Holo Taco nail polish. There are some rad colors, beautiful Holo glitters, and even some basic coats for every day wear. You can also watch Cristine’s videos here!
He’s back, geeks! Sir Pat himself. Jean-Luc Picard. JLP. Mon Capitaine. Ol’ Baldy. (I didn’t make that one up; blame his cast mates). It’s me, your friendly neighborhood…
Hogwarts House: I’m a Slytherin. I apparently have a cunning and charismatic way I carry myself sometimes. I’m a good person. I just have hints of mischief from time to time.
Adventures in Babysitting is one of my favorite comfort movies. Looking back on it, especially since the rise of the MCU, Sarah is a fangirl ahead of her time.
Self care is very important around here. So important that we’ve dedicated a bunch of mini episodes of our podcast to it. And our week two theme for 5 Fandom Friday!
This week’s theme is Favorite Films by Steven Spielberg, which I have seen embarrassingly few of. But I do have some favorites.
To help you decide what to read, here’s a list of some Mega Series that I’ve personally read and can vouch for (or against).
Geek Tank Games has created 2D mini figures that pop into bases when you need them (and otherwise can be stored flat). There are seven sets to choose from, and you can also purchase the accompanying bases or a set of custom storage sheets. And the best part? These are incredibly affordable. For just $15, you can get an entire set. Insta-purchase!
New Year, new resolution! A fun way of setting your intentions is through a New Year outfit. Let your first ootd declare what you want in 2020.
I knew I was wearing my Galactic Commander dress from Elhoffer Designs, but what was I going to do with my makeup? Clearly, the answer was R2D2 inspired makeup.
I absolutely adored this book. It was a blast from start to finish, and I can’t recommend it enough. I think it did something important with Riot Grrrl culture and showed that anyone can be punk rock in their actions.
When I saw that Wandering Through the Shelves has been hosting a weekly movie prompt since 2014, I knew I wanted to join in this year.
Happy New Year, Sartorial Geeks! I am so excited to re-introduce you to one of my favorite geeky blogging series: 5 Fandom Friday.
One of my favorite books of the Women of the World series this year was Tomi Adeyemi’s Children of Blood and Bone, which I read in April. Even then, I was breathlessly anticipating the coming of December, which would bring with it both a new Star War and the second novel of the Land of Orïsha series, Children of Virtue and Vengeance.
