I’ll admit it: I’m a bit of a hoarder when it comes to beauty products. My routines change frequently and I’m always looking for colorful new additions to my makeup collection. It certainly doesn’t help that I’m an impulse buyer and insist on having the newest thing as soon as it comes out.

But as products come and go, get tossed away and traded off, there are some that have earned a permanent place in my seemingly bottomless makeup bag. Here are my top 5 geeky beauty essentials!

I think I’ve always wanted to be Buttercup from the Powerpuff Girls. She’s badass, strong, and looks great in green. When I saw that PeriPera sold Powerpuff Girl makeup on Amazon, I jumped at the possibility of becoming a bit more like that tough gal. Since PeriPera is a company from outside of the United States, it took a bit longer than Amazon Prime’s usual 2-day window to get my lipstick, but once it was in my hands, I was in love.

Splurge on skincare in the name of self-care, they said. It’ll be fun, they said. (Okay, well, it is fun but also really, really dangerous for my wallet.)

Last year, skincare powerhouse GlamGlow teamed up with the recently revamped Power Rangers film for an exclusive line of their best-selling GravityMud masks in colors inspired by its villains. And thus, the GlamGlow Power Rangers GravityMud was born.

Alright Geeks, time to pamper! While out shopping a while back, I found Riley Rose, a cosmetic offshoot of Forever 21. I hadn’t heard anything about it before being drawn in by the crisp colors and beautiful storefront. So, I didn’t know it was related to F21 at all. But I came out, $60 poorer with a bag full of face masks. The mask I knew I had to share with you, fellow cosmetic warriors, is the Gudetama Mask.

Through our Cosmetic Corner segment, I think it’s safe to say I’ve made one thing very clear: I really, really love makeup.

Obviously, I’m no Instagram-make-up-artist-level expert. BUT! I’m perfectly comfortable with that. It’s just fun— to play, to experiment, and to splurge in the name of self-care. (Thank god we have that as an excuse now to rationalize buyer’s remorse, right?)

Well, recently, I found my new favorite place to do that: Besame Cosmetics.

Nerd makeup, it’s a thing!

During our trip to Seattle for Emerald City Comic Con, we got to visit Espionage Cosmetics HQ and sit down with their owner and Glitter Jedi, Jaimie Cordero, to chat all things nerd makeup.

One of the first things Jaimie says about Espionage Cosmetics is that it isn’t quite the business she expected to have, because it’s so much bigger and so much better. Espionage’s first product line (The Browncoats Collection) came about as a response to the devastating news that Firefly actually only has one season. It sold out at its first con and has since exploded into the glittery empire it is today.

Have you ever seen a makeup collection or palette that you’re not entirely sure you’ll ever use, but you just need to get your hands on it anyway? That’s exactly how I felt when I saw The Marauders, Mugwumps, and Muggles Collection. It’s a collection of Harry Potter-inspired eyeshadows and lip tints by Shiro Cosmetics. The collection in its entirety includes twenty shades of loose powder eyeshadows, three different lip tints, and two different “Chocolate Frog” face powders.
