Many tasks feel futile in a pandemic. Many of us are just trying to survive, and anything outside the basics feel superfluous. I’ve certainly wrestled with those feelings since lockdown began, but a year later and I’m, thankfully, doing alright. Subsequently, I’ve been left with a lot of free time and those superfluous activities transformed to essential ones.

Cosplay, and just dressing up in general for Instagram, became a keep busy activity for me. There are no in-person conventions going on, but dressing up at home is one of the only times I feel creative. Donning a costume felt like the last like glimmer of fun left in the world.

When I first started getting into freelance writing, I wanted to find a way to stand out from the rest of the world.

But that’s really hard to do, am I right?!

And then my very first official, fancy schmancy lightsaber arrived. Everything fell into place from there, and my tagline is now “SABERing the moment in Sydney” while I hike Australian bushland with my lightsaber in tow.

Hello 2020! It’s a new year and decade, which makes it a great time to set goals. Everyone has different resolution-makings habits, but last year, I tried something new. For my first outfit of the new year, I wore something that projected the feeling I wanted for the rest of the year. It was a creative way of declaring my intentions sartorially. I’m doing the same for 2020, and I’m sharing that idea and my New Year outfit with you.

When the first Thor movie came out, my best friend told me I’d enjoy it because 1. It was fun, and 2. Thor was handsome and scruffy (aka my type). But as the movie progressed I couldn’t help but think, “Ooh, who’s the brother?!” I found Loki as a character very fascinating as he was troubled, sassy, misunderstood, and burdened with glorious purpose. Reading Loki: Agent of Asgard, Loki: Where Mischief Lies by Mackenzi Lee, and the new Loki series by Daniel Kibblesmith has only fueled my love for the god of mischief even more.

Dapper Day Fall 2019 at Disneyland, CA was the first weekend of November. It was also the first time one at the parks could include Galaxy’s Edge since that land opened after Spring Dapper Day had already taken place. Naturally, my sister and I decided to participate for the first time because Star Wars. With one month left before the conclusion of the Skywalker Saga, it felt like a nice way to kick off our celebration of the series.

Hello from the other side of the Sartorial Geek’s first fashion challenge #SGFashionFix!! Though the challenge is over, I’m wrapping up by recapping my looks from Week 5. I claimed this week on the blog because my oldest nerd title is bookworm, and my bookstagram (@threadedpages, if you’re interested) is themed on bookish fashion. And that’s what the final week was all about! The Get Lit(erary)! theme celebrates everything books.
