SARTORIAL GEEKS: ENSEMBLE!

Welcome to Sartorial Geek’s first ever Geek Fashion Fix Challenge, co-hosted by Nina and Alice!  Throughout the entire month of July (and a bit of August), we challenge you to post a new pic of a geek themed outfit based on your favorite characters and fandoms on your Instagram account.

We’ll be sharing our favorites throughout the weeks on our Instagram. Plus, the outfits you post will win you prizes from Jordandene!

It’s almost sacrilegious to use the word “casual” and Moira Rose in the same sentence. Even when her family loses everything and they’re forced to live in a podunk town with the unfortunate name of Schitt’s Creek, Moira is decked out head-to-toe in fancy frocks that look like they were pulled directly off the runway. Accessories abound, and her avant-garde lewks are always topped off with a wig that belies her mood of the day. (Wigs are as much a part of Moria’s whole vibe as her designer clothing, and affected accent.)

Casual cosplay (or ‘closet cosplay’ as some call it) is a wonderful thing for many reasons. It can help a newbie cosplayer get their feet wet before they make the commitment to full-on cosplay, which can make things much less underwhelming. But it can also give the rest of us an easy way to embrace out fandom 365 days of the year, experts and novices alike.

Casual cosplay usually involves stylish, everyday outfits that you can easily pull from your own closet. This can mean dressing up as a character that keeps it casual or dressing down an elaborate costume in a creative way. Regardless of your reason and how you choose to go about it, this is a super fun way to take your geek chic dressing to the next level. (Plus, it gives your Jordandené tees another purpose. Score.)

I am a geek, nerd, wonk, whatever you prefer. I always have been. When I was younger I boldly wore the shirts, dresses, pants, scarves, etc. that proclaimed loudly to the world I was indeed one of the geeky persuasion, daring them to fight me on it or question my geekness. Movie and book premieres were costumed events. Barely a day went by when there wasn’t some item of geekery on my body, generally more than one. T-shirts, patches, messenger bags, beanies, you name it chances are I wore it.
