Let the past die. Kill it if you have to.

Kylo Ren

Background

Although the relationship between the First Order and the Empire isn’t made very clear, the two together seem to represent the cyclical nature of evil in the Star Wars universe. Although both these organizations have prominently placed Force users, they rely almost entirely on numbers and weaponry for their strength, showing them to be alienated from the natural and spiritual worlds.

The greatest teacher, failure is.

Yoda

Background

Back in A New Hope, Obi Wan Kenobi introduces the world to the Jedi Knights as guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic. But as the series goes on, the truth becomes more complex. Hubris and failure are also integral to the order’s history. The Jedi that we meet across the three trilogies often struggle to live up to their own values of non-violence, truth, and stoicism. Characters often have to figure out what being a Jedi means to them and how they will move forward with this legacy.
