The greatest teacher, failure is.

Yoda

Background

Back in A New Hope, Obi Wan Kenobi introduces the world to the Jedi Knights as guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic. But as the series goes on, the truth becomes more complex. Hubris and failure are also integral to the order’s history. The Jedi that we meet across the three trilogies often struggle to live up to their own values of non-violence, truth, and stoicism. Characters often have to figure out what being a Jedi means to them and how they will move forward with this legacy.

Color Story

Brown

Most Jedi are distinguishable by their brown robes. These evoke the feeling of monks’ robes, which suggests the spiritual aspect of the Jedi. However they also resemble the clothing worn by the Samurai, who served as inspiration for Jedi knights. As the color of earth, brown represents a closeness with nature.

Green

Green is the other color most associated with nature, and it is the color of Luke’s second lightsaber. The Jedi’s connection to the natural world through the Force contrasts with the technological aspect of the Empire. It is probably no coincidence that Yoda, the character most associated with the mystical, is green skinned (similar to the Green Knight or Green Man in English folklore).

Get the Look

  1. Prep and prime: Get your face ready with your moisturizer and/or primer. Prime your eyelids with your favorite primer. I like to apply the Physicians Formula Refreshmint Cucumber & Bamboo Eye De-Puffer before using a fluffy brush to cover your whole eyelid in a neutral shadow to make a nice canvas for blending.

2. We are going to start with Geo Dude from the Colourpop x Kathleen Lights So Jaded Palette, which we will use for the rest of this look. Take a medium fluffy brush and blend into your crease.

3. Now, with a more precise rounded brush, use the shade Jasper to darken the outer corner of your lid.

4. Take a small liner brush with the shade Tiger Eye and line your lower lid. With a dark shade on the lower lid, I always try to use a small amount so as not to draw all the attention to that area.

5. Pop the shade Peridot all over your eyelid. I’d recommend just using your finger for maximum color payoff.

6. Highlight your inner corner and brow bone using the shade Diamond .

7. Now that you’ve finished with your eyeshadow, clean up any fallout and do the rest of your normal makeup: foundation, concealer, contour, brows etc.

8. For blush, I think anything that leans towards neutral for your skin tone and is not too shimmery is the way to go. I am using the Physicians Formula Murumuru Butter Blush in the shade Plum Rose.

9. Dab some of the shade Diamond onto your cheekbones as a highlighter.

10. Finish it off with a light brown lipstick (for me that’s one of the Colourpop Lippie Stix in the shade Brink).

That’s our Jedi inspired look. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, and may the Force be with you!
