Taskmaster is a British TV show in which comedians Greg Davies and Alex Horne set a group of ridiculous tasks for a line-up of other comedians that change every season.

The format is very simple: every episode begins with a “prize task” wherein each contest brings something in that fits the category.

Previous examples include: “best thing starting with the letter G,” “most desirable smooth thing,” and “most impressive item.” Each item is then scored in a 5-point system by the Taskmaster himself, Greg Davies.

At the end of each episode, the person in the line-up who has gained the most points is the winner of the episode and gets to take all the items home!

After the prize task, each episode features 3 pre-recorded tasks. Some are filmed at what is called “The Taskmaster House,” and some are filmed on location. Previous tasks that were filmed in the Taskmaster house include “eat the most melon in a minute,” “design and demonstrate the best quick change outfit,” and “conceal this pineapple on your person.”

On-location tasks have included “impress the mayor of Chesham,” “get as close to Alex as possible without him seeing you,” and “create the best splat.”

Some of the pre-recorded tasks are filmed individually, and some are filmed in teams. After each task airs, they are once again scored by Greg Davies.

The last task of the show is a “live task.” These come in many varieties—guessing games, throwing games, drawing tasks. These are often scored based on set rules and not on Greg’s judgement.

Due to the nature of the show, some episodes result in arguments about scoring. This adds to the show’s appeal. It is full of laughs and always enjoyable to watch. The tasks are all very silly as well, and it is very entertaining to see the way different comedians approach each task.

At the end of each series, the person who has accrued the most points over the entirety of the show is deemed the winner and gets to take home a trophy!

If you are in the UK, Taskmaster can be watched on UKTV Play and All4.
