February is the month of fashion, with Fashion Weeks appearing across the globe. With high-end designers holding shows in New York, Milan, and Paris, what we really wondered was just how much inspiration did they pull from Ridley Scott’s 1982 film Blade Runner given that this is 2019, the setting of the film.

The world of Blade Runner is a dystopian, cyber-punk realm filled with thick coats, see-through plastics, go-go boots, and 80s hair gone wild – and fall fashion seems to have some solid android attire in store.

On the Runway

Given that this past month was a feature for upcoming Fall fashion, there was no paucity of coats dripping in cyberpunk, dystopian appeal.

Whether you prefer Deckard or K, Chloé has the perfect coat for tracking down replicants.

Oscar de la Renta might as well have been redesigning Rachael’s coat from the film; the main difference is the accessories.

The interesting aspect to Blade Runner is that, while most dystopian worlds might shy away from bright colors, Blade Runner (particularly 2049) weaves colors and monochrome together, with a serious penchant for yellow – whether that’s Joi’s raincoat or the overall hue of the film. And on the New York Fashion Week runways, that color was front and center. We think this Ulla Johnson piece might be the best fit for 2019, and it has some serious staying power for the 2049 runways as well.

Although technically about 30 years ahead of its fashion time, the final Blade Runner inspired coat trend would have to be feathers, and Prabal Gurung provided those. Who wore it best: runway model or Mackenzie Davis’ Mariette?

Off the Runway

Not only did the runways provide some seriously Blade Runner inspired outfits, but the street attire of those attending fits into our electric sheep dreams. The Cut sent photographer Nicky Zeng to snap some photos of fashionable visitors.

Character Love: Pris Fashion Week

Perhaps the best thing to come out of Fashion month is the love for Pris – both on and off the runway. From the hairstylings of Kenzo’s show to the street attire of attendees, Pris’ style might be the most recognizable for fans of Blade Runner. She may be unhinged, but there’s no one with a style quite like hers.

Just add some steam, dark lighting, and a killer soundtrack and any of these people could be walking the streets alongside Deckard, Rachael, Gaf, or Pris. Ridley Scott, at the very least, had all the fashion right.

If you want to look for your own favorite Blade Runner looks, flip through Harpers Bazaar’s slideshows. Honestly, there’s too much good stuff to cover!

New York Fashion Week Fall 2019 – Oscar de la Renta, Ulla Johnson, Prabal Gurung

Paris Fashion Week Fall 2019 – Chloé and Kenzo

Milan Fashion Week Fall 2019 – We didn’t even get a chance to talk about Ferragamo, Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini, Versace, or Gucci, but they are serving some serious Blade Runner looks.
