In case you missed it, we’re participating in Wandering Through the Shelves’ Thursday Movie Picks. This week’s theme is Favorite Films by Steven Spielberg, which I have seen embarrassingly few of. But I do have some favorites.
I’ve been really into blog prompts lately (in case you couldn’t tell by the fact that almost all of my posts are recurring weekly or monthly themes). When I saw that Wandering Through the Shelves has been hosting a weekly movie prompt since 2014, I knew I wanted to join in this year.
Disney+ launched in the U.S. on November 12, 2019 and we’ve all been busy reliving our childhoods thanks to the new Disney exclusive streaming service. I grew up watching all of the Disney classics, and as an adult I am a total fangirl for everything Marvel and Star Wars, so signing up for Disney+ wasn’t even a question. Disney rules my world, and I am very okay with that.
They’re creepy and they’re kooky.
Mysterious and spooky.
That’s right, they’re the delightfully dreadful Addams family. *snap* *snap*
The Addams Family was originally created by cartoonist Charles Addams in 1938. The characters are a satire on the ideal 20th century American family. For those unfamiliar with the Addams, they’re a macabre household who the general public find strange and unusual. Usually dressed in all black and associated with all things creepy, mysterious, spooky – Gomez, Morticia, Wednesday, Pugsley, Lurch, and Thing star in an all new CG animated movie.
Despite loving Halloween, I have always hated one particular, rather fundamental, aspect of this holiday—scary stuff. I hate it. All of it. I hate scary movies. I hate haunted houses. I hate people who hide in your bushes and jump out to get candy. (Who tf hides in bushes?! Murderers, that’s who. Don’t be a murderer. Don’t hide in bushes.)
Don’t @ me.
My Pop Culture Apology is to a character that I disliked when I was younger. Now with time and re-watching, I have realized how great she really is. I am here to apologize to Janine Melnitz.
The last couple of years in Doctor Who fandom have been a bumpy ride through the time vortex. First off, much to the chagrin of haters everywhere, we finally got a female incarnation of the Doctor and she’s charming and goofy and smart – just as the Doctor should be. Her companions are also quick to think on their feet and learn the ropes. With that said, the writing of Thirteen’s first outing left much to be desired, with only a few of season 11’s episodes feeling like standouts. Even the daleks returning on New Year’s felt old hat (once they finally arrived).
Before you try to guess the reason: no, it’s not because he’s hot. I mean, he is, but it has nothing to do with that. Bucky Barnes being attractive is just the cherry on top of the magnificent Bucky Barnes. And don’t worry, this article will be completely spoiler free. If you haven’t seen Endgame yet though, you should.
Last summer I reviewed the original How to Train Your Dragon (2010) after the trailer for The Hidden World, the conclusion to the trilogy, was newly released. One of the best feelings in the world is when that moment you’ve been waiting and waiting for FINALLY arrives. How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World was released in theaters February 22, 2019 and in my humble opinion, it did not disappoint.
