Even on a network that brought us Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead, AMC’s Preacher is… different.

Honestly, how to even describe it? Based on the comic books by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, Preacher follows former-criminal-now-man-of-the-cloth Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), badass beeyotch Tulip (Ruth Negga), and Irish vampire Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) on their quest to find God, who has been missing since Season 1.

Like the comics, the show has graphic violence, all manner of sexual fetishes, and, of course, more religious confusion than you can shake a stick at. Will our band of “heroes” (I’m using that term VERY loosely, as none of the main characters are heroic in any traditional sense) find answers in Season 3? Let’s remember where we left off and ponder where things may go from here… Spoilers ahead!

Being a book nerd doesn’t necessarily mean you’re the smartest person in the room… but it usually means you’re the most likely person to try and sneak a book into a party. Tony Stark is a known genius (billionaire/playboy/philanthropist), but can you really picture him contentedly curled up with a book and cup of coffee on his down time? He’d go stir crazy and invent a robot to download the information into his brain, or something. So without further ado… Here’s a list of our favorite super-powered book nerds.

“World may be crashing down ‘round us, but we figured out the trick.
Don’t be greedy. Be satisfied with having enough.
Some think it’s too antiquated a way of livin.’ But look around. We make it work.”

Outsiders view the Grass Kingdom as a town full of tax dodgers and squatters. Its residents know better. To live there is to live in a paradise full of people who want to think, live, and work for themselves and each other. So when someone new would like to join they all get a say.

At times the universe can feel like a dark and lonely place. A place where one can easily give in to darkness in order to escape the pain and suffering of reality. But luckily, there are stories like Zodiac Starforce to inspire us in our darkest times.

Zodiac Starforce is a comic series starring an elite team of teenage girls with magical powers bestowed upon them by the goddess Astra.

This magical series is written by Kevin Panetta and illustrated by Paulina Ganucheau, whose bright and colorful illustrations are complete eye candy. Zodiac Starforce: By the Power of Astra is volume 1 of the series. It collects issues #1-4 and introduces the Starforce cadets in the midst of a classic struggle between good and evil.

I’m just gonna say it: I love colourful comics.

That’s not a knock at black-and-white comics. Joe Kelly’s I Kill Monsters tore my heart out of my chest and casually line-danced all over it. Rest assured, it returned, but never beat the same. If that sounds a little too intense, check out the classic black-and-white Disney comics which, to be honest, are my life-blood.

I just prefer to open a comic and be drawn in by bright colours. Vibrant whorls and cheerful swirls and perfect palettes can absolutely transform an artist’s landscape and breathe life into a comic, whether you’re dealing with the nearly-psychotropic grimness of Sweet Tooth or the clean, sanitized look of DC Superhero Girls.
