A question we ask fellow Star Wars fans upon first meeting them is, “Are you on the Light Side or Dark Side?” Personally, I’m Light Side minded (I would hope everyone is!), but my Star Wars sartorial choices are predominantly Dark Side influenced. I mean . . . how can they not be?!

When it comes to the battle of Light Side vs. Dark Side, the Dark Side wins in the fashion department. You don’t even need to search your feelings, you know it to be true!

From clean lines, tailored coats, cloaks, mock neck tops — you name it, anyone on the Dark Side always looks impeccable. Kudos to whoever the Empire, First Order, and other baddies’ Edna Mode is!

Here are the colors, fabrics, and materials I look for when it comes to Dark Side inspired clothes + accessories:

  • Black (obviously)
  • Grey/Charcoal
  • Red
  • White
  • Silver/chrome
  • Leather
  • Velvet (I don’t think anyone necessarily wears velvet — it’s just very rich and Dark Side-y to me)

In anticipation for The Rise of Skywalker, I’ve put together a few First Order inspired looks:

Kylo Ren is a Punk Bébé

This was an accidental Moira Rose (Schitt’s Creek) inspired Star Wars outfit. But you know what? Moira’s everyday ensembles basically look like something a Star Wars villain would wear, anyway! I layered my “Kylo Ren is a Punk Bitch” Jordandene tank over a sheer a mock neck with a black velvet skater skirt. For accessories, I wore a statement necklace and layered a gold wrap bracelet with the opening scroll of Ep IV, and Po-Zu’s First Order high tops to complete the look!

BB-H8

BB-9E, or BB-H8 as I like to call it, didn’t get much screen time in The Last Jedi, but it looks SO COOL. For this outfit, I wore my BB-H8 t-shirt with a deep red velvet skater skirt and black velvet jacket. To add more First Order deets, I wore my First Order insignia pin, Captain Phasma purse by Loungefly, and Po-Zu high tops.

Dark Rey

“She’s strong with the Force. Untrained, but stronger than she knows.”

In the first teaser trailer we saw a Dark Rey! WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? Does our precious Force-sensitive cinnamon roll give in to the Dark Side? We’ll find out [not so] soon enough! For this look, I went super casual with a long dark red cardi and Jordandene’s Kylo Ren quote tee. I also added my BB-8 necklace (from Batuu since) since Rey had her very first adventure with him (Her? It? What are BB-8’s pronouns?).

General Luxe

I call this my “Real Housewives of the First Order” look. If you’ve been following me for a while on social media, you may know that I lovingly refer to General Hux as my Huxband. I took inspo from his long coat by pairing this long black waistcoat by Tatyana Boutique with a skater dress from Utinni Bikini. It has the First Order insignia printed all over it! But real talk, after reading a one-shot General Hux comic, I think we’re going to be separating. No amount of fan fic I write in my head can redeem his heinous actions!

Do you have your outfits planned for your viewing of The Rise Skywalker yet?! Will you be repping the Light Side or Dark Side? I’m still undecided—all I know is that I’m bringing one of my plush porgs with me for general hugs.
