Halloween may technically be over, but that doesn’t mean that the spooky fun needs to end. We can carry spooky season in our hearts, right? If you’re not ready for the merry season, a show you may have missed but definitely need to check out is Hulu’s Light as a Feather.

McKenna (Liana Liberato) confronting Jennie

If you’ve been sleeping on this show, you’re missing out. The premise rests on the slumber party game of “light as a feather, stiff as a board,” but with a terrible twist. Thanks to the presence of the “chrysalis” (a gross monster curse that appears on one unlucky soul’s back), the main characters’ game is followed by terrible deaths, all predicted during the game. It’s a creepy premise based on a childhood game, and the show comes in delightful 30-minute morsels that are easy to binge through. But the best part is the friend group and the style of each within it.

There are only two seasons, but the development that these characters go through, the struggles, the friendships they make (and lose), the terrible curse they uncover, is a worthwhile watch. It’s got spook. Teen romance. Drama. And style.

Seriously, each of these young women has killer style. McKenna (Liana Liberato) makes lounge and chill look unbelievably cute. Violet (Haley Ramm) has a prep fashion that would fit in perfectly in the world of Sabrina or Riverdale. And Alex (Brianne Tju) brings a grunge ’90s style into the present day.

If you’re going to battle a death curse, you might as well look cute while you do it. Who said style should suffer in the face of tragedy??

They each have a personality and style entirely their own, but the intertwining of their destinies and the bond that they form over the course of the two seasons shows that even very different people can become friends. In a dark and cursed world, sometimes the only people who can truly understand you are those who have been through the darkness too.

So if you like spook and shows where teenagers have to deal with things they should definitely not be dealing with (a la Riverdale and the like), you should give this show a chance. And I promise, if you watch the show, the only curse is that there aren’t more episodes to devour.
