Ephemeral Tattoo Has Developed Ink that fades over a year. Never Regret a Tattoo Again!

Have you ever wanted to get a tattoo but were afraid you might come to regret it? Or that maybe a year from now you would be in a different place in your life and the design no longer suits you? Well, put those fears to rest! Ephemeral Tattoo has created an ink specifically designed to fade over the course of a year! That’s right, regret free tattoos are here! I visited their Brooklyn studio recently to see what all the hype was about.

First of Its Kind Ink

The ink used by Ephemeral is the first of its kind! The idea was the brainchild of five NYU friends who wanted tattoos to be available to everyone, regardless of their family or fear of long term commitment. As co-founder Josh Sakhai said, “With Ephemeral Tattoo, we’re trying to break down some of the obstacles that hold people back from expressing themselves. No matter where you come from, how you were raised, or what you aspire to be, we want you to feel welcomed in our studio.”

It took six years of research and development to come up the current ink formulation, which is comprised of FDA approved ingredients. Ephemeral ink was the creation of a team of doctors and chemical engineers who tested more than 50 variations before their final product. This isn’t a temporary tattoo. This is a real tattoo, applied like all others. The difference? Ephemeral’s tattoo ink was specifically created with medical grade bioabsorbable materials that fade away over the course of 9-15 months. Still worried because it’s a pretty new idea? Just know that co-founder and co-developer of the ink, Dr. Vandan Shah, was the first volunteer and has since gotten over 50 tattoos with their ink!

Getting Your Ephemeral Tattoo

Now that we’ve discussed the science, let’s get into the fun part: getting your tattoo! To get started on your appointment, you will need to place a $20 deposit (which is later deducted from your total cost). Be ready when new appointment times drop; they fill up fast! After booking your appointment, they will send you a design survey. Fill it out with any notes and pictures you might have so that your artist can create the perfect tattoo. For design planning, be aware that black is the only color available at this time. Other than that, let your creativity take off and get the tattoo of your dreams!

I had never gotten a tattoo before, but I have been with various friends for moral support. No other studio felt as relaxing or inviting as Ephemeral. I was not prepared for the retro-chic aesthetic! There was music playing, candles lit, and the color palette was soothing and trendy. In short, I felt as though I just stepped into a spa rather than a tattoo studio! From design elements to the friendliness of the staff, everything is set up to put you at ease.

Before you get your tattoo, there is time to sit with the artist and discuss the final design. As a tattoo newbie, I appreciated every piece of advice my artist had on which places were more painful and proper sizing to avoid losing details. The tattooing itself took 20 minutes at most. My artist checked in frequently to make sure I was doing okay and didn’t need a break. I’m happy to report I had zero pain with my first tattoo! I think it was because my artist was just that good.

Caring For Your Ephemeral Tattoo

After the tattoo, you receive thorough aftercare instructions. You also get a kit of products to ensure proper healing. They truly want to make sure that you know everything about how to care for your tattoo so that you get the best results. I am a rule follower, so I adhered to the instructions religiously. What’s great about Ephemeral Tattoos is that your time with them doesn’t end when you walk out their door. Three days after my appointment I got an email prompting me to advance to the next stage of after care, and two weeks after my appointment I received another email asking how the healing was going and checking to see if I had any questions.

Final thoughts

Ephemeral Tattoo is amazing! I love that people (like me) who either can’t commit to a permanent tattoo or have some reservations due to family or personal values now have this option to express themselves! As Ephemeral’s CEO Jeff Liu says, “Our team’s diversity reflects our ethos creating a space for all genders, races, ages, and ideas to pursue self-expression with their bodies as a canvas.” I’m excited to see how my tattoo progresses over the next few months. Until then, I’m already planning when I can go back for round two!
