Think back to when you were a kid and wanted nothing more than to discover you had secret magical powers. You weren’t always about which credit cards get you the most points, Pyrex dishware, or 401ks. You had moments of imagination and wonder. Adventures in your own backyard. We never gave a second thought to pretending we were an elven maiden on a quest to find a treasure hidden in an underwater cave guarded by a giant squid.
I’ve always wanted to play Dungeons and Dragons. The idea had always intrigued me, and I really loved the idea. Unfortunately, for a long time, I wasn’t able to find anyone to play with and was left constantly wondering about the game. I let it go and stopped looking for anyone to play with.

Many of us know just how fun it can be to indulge in “geeky” habits, ranging from the gripping stories found within the pages of comic books to the tense battles of wits that many board games can provide. However, few could argue that one of the ‘geekiest’ pastimes is also one of the greatest sources for entertainment that is fueled by nought but dice and imagination: Dungeons & Dragons.
I’ve been pretty obsessed with D&D since I started playing a weekly campaign last year. As a group of New Yorkers living in relatively-tight apartments, our group has to be conscious of our gaming supplies and how much space they need. Thanks to the wonders of Facebook, I stumbled across a Kickstarter campaign that solves this exact problem.
The first time I tried to play Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) was a devastating experience. I had always been a fan of fantasy; going to the local renaissance fair every year as a kid probably had a lot to do with it.I still remember the wonder I felt stepping into the darkness of a brightly colored tent to witness the Dragon. It was a puppet of sorts, but it was huge and it moved and it breathed fire. I was lost to fantasy ever since.
