Who doesn’t get a rush of nostalgic joy overcome them whenever they see an old-school friendship bracelet? Not only do they remind us of the camp days we’d stack them on our arms, but they’ve also made a comeback as a go-to summer accessory in the past few years. (i.e.: Dior Resort ’18. Friendship bracelets can be as chic as they are fun!) Miriam Salzman, the artisan behind the Etsy shop Summer of String, is bringing that nostalgia with an adorably geeky twist.

Summer of String: Supergirl

About Summer of String

Summer of String may have just celebrated its 5th anniversary this month, but Miriam made friendship bracelets long before then. She started at just eight years old. As she got older and moved onto college, she missed the tradition of making bracelets at summer camps and decided it was something she wanted to continue doing. Two weeks after her college graduation, Summer of String was born.

Summer of String Patreon subscribers can also get access to exclusive content. This includes discounted products, patterns, and tutorials for those who want to make friendship bracelets of their own.

The Bracelets

Within months of selling her work, Miriam began exclusively designing her own patterns. Now, she has a shop full of bracelets with designs inspired by Orphan Black, The Magicians, Broadway shows, Harry Potter and more. She takes custom orders as well.

Her designs range from simple bracelets that take as little as 15 minutes to make, to more complex pieces that can take up to 16 hours! One of our favorites, the Supergirl-inspired design, used to take that long. But, as more orders came in and she made it over and over, she cut that production time in half.

The Response

The response to Summer of String has been overwhelmingly positive. Miriam’s Etsy shop boasts a 5-star rating and has sold to customers that include the cast of Supergirl and the writers of The Flash.

Summer of String is also able to sell her Orphan Black designs with legal permission. In fact, after years of selling bracelets to the cast and crew themselves, she was commissioned to make bracelets that were featured in the final four episodes of the show. You can see Miriam’s bracelets on screen in Orphan Black season 5, episodes 7-10.

Keep up with Miriam and Summer of String on Etsy, Patreon, or @summerofstring and #summerofstring on social media.
