It is time to tale a look at Charlie’s Angles, making a reappearance on our screens. This movie has received a lot of negative feedback and has been called a box office flop. While there are a few things that I found it lacked, overall, I truly enjoyed it and would see it again.

Time to Take a Look at "Charlie's Angels"

When I first heard about Charlie’s Angels, I thought it was going to be a remake or reboot. I was happy and intrigued to find out that instead, it is a continuation. Before discussing the movie itself, let’s take a look at the Charlie’s Angels franchise as a whole.

From 1976 to 1981, Kate Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, and Jaclyn Smith fought crime in the five season run of the Angels that started it all. Unknowingly from there, a franchise began. In the 2000 Charlie’s Angels movie, Cameron Diaz (Natalie), Drew Barrymore (Dylan), Lucy Liu (Alex), and Bill Murray became the next Angels and Bosley. They are tasked to save Eric Knox (Sam Rockwell), but he turns out to be the villain. Our three leading ladies would reprise their roles in 2003 for Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle.

2003 was a big year for the franchise. There was a six-episode web series, Charlie’s Angels: Animated Adventures, set as a prequel to the second movie. Three video games came out: Charlie’s Angels was released on Nintendo GameCube and PlayStation 2, and Charlie’s Angels: Road Cyclone came out on mobile. There was also an online game called Charlie’s Angels: Angel X. Two more mobile games have since been released: Charlie’s Angels: Hellfire and Charlie’s Angels: The Game. We haven’t even mentioned the books, comic books, collectibles, merchandise, trading cards, soundtracks, and more.

Alright, this latest female-led action adventure was James Bond mixed with The Kingsman. These three Angels are some of the many ass-kicking women who work for the voice of Charlie. The group consists of Jane Kano (Balinska), who is very stoic and former MI6; Sabina Wilson (Stewart), the joker of the group who reacts quickly; and Elena Houghlin (Scott), a computer scientist working on a secret project called Calisto. When Elena discovers that her secret project can also be weaponized, she becomes a target which lands her in the path of the Angels. Because she is super smart and a quick learner, she soon joins them. Elizabeth Banks wrote, directed, and also stars in this movie as the first female Bosley. Jaclyn Smith also makes an appearance as her original character Kelly Garrett.

The movie moves fast but still shows the characters bonding and connecting. Kristen Stewart makes the movie for me. She looks very comfortable and in this movie and is also gorgeous. The dancing and fight sequences were impressive and fun to watch. We cannot forget to mention the multiple stunning outfit changes and disguise outfits. I want their closet!

The only issue I had with Charlie’s Angels was that sometimes the chemistry between the three main women felt forced. Some scenes were quick cuts could have been shot in one sequence; those scenes took me out of the moment. I also thought that there could have been better marketing for the movie. I saw a couple of trailers on TV, but I rarely saw anything on social media. I didn’t even know that Patrick Stewart or Djimon Hounsou was in the movie until I saw it.

One thing from this movie that I think we all can agree on is that the soundtrack is fantastic. Brian Tyler composed the score, and Ariana Grande co-executive produced with Savan Kotecha. She even appears on the songs “Don’t Call Me Angel,” “Bad to You,” “Nobody,” “How I Look on You,” and “Got Her Own.” Other musicians that appear on the album are Danielle Bradbery, Anitta, Chaka Khan, Donna Summer, Nicki Minaj, Kash Doll, Kim Petras, Lana Del Rey, and Miley Cyrus.

While Charlie’s Angels was enjoyable, there probably won’t be a sequel. But it a movie I do recommend watching.
