NYCC fashion is… tricky. October weather in New York is unpredictable. If it’s warm outside, it’s usually freezing inside, and it’s always insanely humid, even if it’s only 70 degrees. All of that usually leaves part of me wanting to wear leggings, a tank, and a cardigan every day, especially when I have to work. The other part of me, though– the part that literally went to fashion school– never allows that.

So, I planned my con outfits carefully. I started watching the weather closely as far in advance as I could. I searched through the depths of my closet to ensure I wouldn’t have to go on yet another shopping spree, and I did pretty well. (Turned out I already owned everything except for a cardigan I needed to buy for the season anyway.) And finally, when the weekend came, I had four, perfectly planned-out outfits for NYCC. Here’s what I wore!

Note: Bad lighting brought to you by unpredictable weather!

Annalise Keating is one of the most complex characters I’ve ever encountered in television. But, surprising nobody, Viola Davis always gives 110% in her performance, so there’s a lot more to focus on than just what she’s wearing.

But, it’s still hard to miss.

When I think about modern, stylish, brilliant, powerful women in television, Annalise Keating and Olivia Pope are the first names that come to mind. So, it was no surprise to learn that these two fictional powerhouses are styled by the same person. The two characters seem to have more and more in common as I continue to watch. But, their senses of style are still distinct and completely them.

In Annalise’s closet, you’ll find…

It’s the last day of New York Comic Con. You’re tired. Your feet hurt. You probably spent a bit more money than you’d planned to. But it was all in the name of fun and fandom, right? Right? Regardless of whether you were there for a day or a weekend, you probably need some time to relax and recharge. So, what better time is there to share my post-con skincare routine with my fellow geeks?

Of course, it isn’t exclusively for after NYCC, or any con at all. You can follow my routine whenever you feel like your skin needs a little extra TLC.

No skincare routine can start without washing your face, so do that first!

I love everything fashion and beauty, but I’m not one who always wants to sacrifice comfort for the sake of it. This especially applies to working at and attending conventions. Thousands of people crammed into one building, harsh fluorescent lights, and blasting AC that somehow make the entire building both humid and freezing at the same time certainly doesn’t sound like an event to dress up for. (That’s why I admire cosplayers so much. Those that wear their cosplay all day operate on a level of commitment I will never be able to comprehend.) Of course, years of convention-going experience has prepped me for the worst conditions. And with NYCC just around the corner, I figured there’s no better time to share with you my five comic con beauty essentials!

Without these five products, I wouldn’t survive any con, let alone my biggest one of the year next weekend.

To be completely honest, the original run of Dynasty was way before my time. So far behind, in fact, that when The CW decided to reboot the series last year, I had no idea it was a remake. What I did know before that, however, was that Fallon Carrington, played perfectly by Elizabeth Gillies, was the queen of all queens.

Fallon Carrington is one of those characters you know is bad news, no matter which run of Dynasty you’re watching. She is s a troublemaker on all fronts. She’s feisty, overprivileged, and manipulative… so why is it that I still root for her? I mean, she is also incredibly intelligent, business-savvy, and ambitious. Maybe there’s a bit of fellow Slytherin bias here, but from what I’ve watched so far, it seems like everyone else is just as bad. So, if I can’t hope for the best for the main protagonist of a show, what’s the point?

I know, I know: I’ve talked a lot about how amazing the Jordandené zipper pouches are. But, that’s only because I firmly believe that everyone needs at least one in their life. And, with New York Comic Con just around the corner, I wanted to share a little idea I’ve had for a while now: a mini con survival kit.

Whether you’re a cosplayer, seasoned convention-goer, or manning a booth like me, you definitely need to put together something like this. And what better way to do it with one of Jordandené’s zipper pouches?

In case you missed it, my post two weeks ago was all about the new RockLove x Disney jewelry collection. Obviously, seeing two brands I adore come together was a dream come true, especially when it tapped into Disney’s underrated darker side. Plus, I’ve mentioned and loved so many others in the past: ColourPop x My Little Pony. Bésame Cosmetics x Agent Carter. Columbia x Star Wars!!! So, that really got me thinking: what would my dream geeky fashion collaborations be?

Sadly, I can’t promise that any of these are in the works, nor can I gauge the likelihood of them ever happening. But, it’s still fun to think about, right? (But, if you’re well-connected and know how to get any of these ideas rolling, you know where to find me.)

New Girl is one of those shows I just couldn’t give up on as I blossomed into adulthood. It just had a special place in my heart that was rooted deeper than any other show I started in high school. Jessica Day rationalized my level of weird and social anxiety. She made me wish I had an elementary school teacher like her. (And I’m sure school would have been slightly less traumatizing if I did.) She was sweet, fun, and just relatable enough that I’d still want to be her friend.

But, oh, Jess… Lovely, quirky Jessica Day… you lied to me.  Dating a guy with the persona of a barely-functioning old man is not as cute as she made it seem. And, who would’ve thought that sharing an apartment with a bunch of guys isn’t that fun? (Spoiler alert: I spent a year living with five grown men. I still live with four of them. We’re only friends when we’re drinking and nobody has fallen in love. Boring.)

Surely, you’ve heard of RockLove Jewelry by now, be it from their gorgeously crafted, officially-licensed merchandise, to their feature in The Sartorial Geek Issue 001. When RockLove owner/designer Allison Cimino mentioned that a Disney x RockLove Jewelry collection was in the works, I was over the moon. And, finally, after waiting on the edge of my seat since then, that collection is here and even better than what I could have hoped for. Because this collection isn’t all singing princesses and friendly mice…

The Disney x RockLove Jewelry is all about the villainesses. That’s right: this collection celebrates all of the bad B’s of Disney.

Another month has passed right before our very eyes, Sartorial Geeks. You know what that means, don’t you? Besides summer nearly coming to an end, it means a whole month has passed since our last geeky fashion roundup! Surely, a lot has happened in the nerdy fashion world since then and I’ve been itching to talk about it all, so let’s get right to it!
