Welcome to The Sartorial Geek!

The latest project from Team Jordandené is a geeky lifestyle magazine (that you can get for free at sartorialgeek.com). This obviously seemed like the perfect time to start an accompanying podcast. Our hope with The Sartorial Geek is to tell cool stories from cool people in the geeky community. We want a place to chat about important themes in the latest MCU release and then nerd out over our new favorite geeky fashion brand. A place to show unique points of view and discuss what we’re concerned and excited about.

Who doesn’t love a good Disney movie? Most of us have fond childhood memories of the Disney-universe. This list is an ode to all the animated lady bosses who show young girls what it means to be a badass. Here are my top 10 badass Disney women.

NOTE: This list is from original Disney animations. It does not include the more recent additions of Fox, Marvel, and etc. Otherwise we all know who would top the list…

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what, exactly, makes someone a “style icon”. I usually just go off of someone with a covetable closet and a unique sense of fashion that can tell far more about them than anyone would think. But, you know what else all of these characters have in common? Their wardrobes are seemingly endless and you sure as hell don’t see them recycle an outfit, let alone a pair of jeans. This week, that pattern shifted. It only took one episode of Netflix’s Love to deem Mickey Dobbs (Gillian Jacobs) my new style obsession and at that momentI didn’t even realize I was breaking the cycle.

When my husband and I moved into our new house, he set the tone for the decor by hanging a giant picture of Heart from The Awkward Yeti right next to the front door (if you haven’t read this amazing/adorable comic, I can’t recommend it enough).

From that moment, the choice about decor was made – we were going to fill this house with fun, geek decor that made us happy.

Here’s a quick pic tour of some of my favorites:

A Review of My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante

What it’s about

Through our narrator, Elena (nicknamed Lenu), we get to know her and her frenemy Raffaela (nicknamed Lila and Lina). We watch as both girls grow up in 1950s Naples. In a poor rough neighborhood, scandals, murders, and violent depression are common. Throughout the four-book-series, we will follow their lives up until their middle age. It’s a bildungsroman (coming of age story) in every sense.

This week’s fictional style icon comes to you straight from binging the first two seasons of HBO’s Insecure in one sitting.

Yes, I’m jumping on the bandwagon way late. And all I can say is that I’m kicking myself for not tuning in earlier because Issa Dee is my everything.

Issa Rae was already goals to begin with in every way, shape, and form. From her killer red carpet style to teeth perfect enough to distract me episodes at a time (seriously, how did they get like that? This girl’s smile puts the Orbit gum lady to shame). Her fictional counterpart, Issa Dee, also dressed by her real-life, stylist, is no different.

Yes, before you ask: this is a Black Panther blog now. (I’m only half-joking, but if you’ve been keeping track of our posts these last few weeks, you’d probably believe me, right?)

I shouldn’t have to tell you that since it’s release, Marvel Studios’ Black Panther has taken the world by storm. Theaters have sold out all around the world, filled to the brim with some of the most amazing outfits any of us have ever seen. The #BlackPantherChallenge has raised over $700k for kids in 50 different countries to see the film. Strangers all across Twitter have even bought tickets for each other.
