The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab comes out this week, and I can’t wait. I wanted to celebrate by doing a makeup look inspired by the beautiful cover

I started by doing my foundation and concealer before doing my eyebrows.

I applied eye shadow primer and grabbed an eye shadow palette I love that includes the right shade of gold.

I started by applying the gold shade all over my eyelid, and then I added some brown into the crease.

Then I added brown eyeliner to my waterline and a black wing to my lid.

I did a thin line of glitter primer right above my eyeliner and added gold glitter.

Then I added mascara to finish the eye look.

I contoured my cheeks and added some gold highlighter to make me look unforgettable. Heh see what I did there?

Then I drew the constellation from the cover using eyeliner. The eyeliner I used had a star stamp on the other end which was helpful, but you could also draw in the stars yourself.

I added dark lipstick. Mine is a dark purple-y brown, but any dark shade will do.

Finally to complete the look, I added gold lipstick on top.

Let the past die. Kill it if you have to.

Kylo Ren

Background

Although the relationship between the First Order and the Empire isn’t made very clear, the two together seem to represent the cyclical nature of evil in the Star Wars universe. Although both these organizations have prominently placed Force users, they rely almost entirely on numbers and weaponry for their strength, showing them to be alienated from the natural and spiritual worlds.

The greatest teacher, failure is.

Yoda

Background

Back in A New Hope, Obi Wan Kenobi introduces the world to the Jedi Knights as guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic. But as the series goes on, the truth becomes more complex. Hubris and failure are also integral to the order’s history. The Jedi that we meet across the three trilogies often struggle to live up to their own values of non-violence, truth, and stoicism. Characters often have to figure out what being a Jedi means to them and how they will move forward with this legacy.

I’m not contractually obligated to write a post every time Besamé Cosmetics does something awesome. I swear I’m not, even if that would be the dream. I just really, really love them and won’t stop until you do, too.

Besamé is no stranger to the Disney collaboration. From Agent Carter to Snow White, they truly do have something for every make-up loving geek. Plus, it’s nearly impossible to not appreciate that retro flair and the amount of heart and detail that goes into every piece. Their newest Peter Pan-inspired project, the Mermaid Lagoon Collection, is no exception.

If you know me, you know I am rarely– if ever– seen without red lipstick. Taylor Swift, circa 2012, made it look so easy for my high school self to get into. Tracee Ellis Ross assured me I’m not crazy for breaking it out even in the most casual settings. (Red lips at the gym? An actual queen.) Here I am now, an adult woman that will skip several days of washing her hair but won’t leave the house without a red balm at the very least. It makes me feel as pretty as I do empowered and brightens up my face better than any blush ever could.

As someone who has tried every brand, shade, and finish in the books, I truly wonder why people are still so scared of red lipstick. I’ve heard every excuse out there: “It’s too high-maintenance!” “I feel like a clown!” “It looks weird with my hair/skin/features!” Red lips date back to as early as 3000 B.C., so don’t think it’s going away anytime soon. Your shade is out there, you just haven’t found it yet.

If you’re on the fence about rocking red, I’m not going to try to convince you anymore. I’ll let these badass ladies do it instead:
