Have you ever read a book that both destroyed and created you in one fell swoop? That’s how I felt about John Green’s Turtles All the Way Down.
Quite some time ago, I had the immense pleasure of receiving a couple Pop Classics from Quirk Books. Quirk is one of my favorite publishers, but as my TBR is too big, and there are nowhere near enough hours in the day, these lovely books fell by the wayside.
I’ve had this book sitting in my TBR for over a year at this point, and I’m glad I finally got to it! With my 2020 goal of reading all of the unread books I own, it has been important for me to work through both fun books and books with more depth. While this one has some depth to it, it’s still a fun read!
Unpregnant is a book that I bought when it first came out, but I knew I wanted to read it this year, so I saved it. Of course I read it in the first month of the year because I was so excited about it, but I’m glad I did. Have you read any books already that you know will be one of your favorites of the year? This was one for me.
I’ve been so dang excited about this book, but I made sure to wait until 2020 to read it. Looking at the cover, it was made for me (always here for a good punk jacket). Plus it’s about babysitters and witches….me.
Since many of us are finding ourselves spending more time at home than usual, it’s the perfect time to read more books!
Reading can be a great bonding experience, ESPECIALLY if you have kids around. Studies have shown that reading with children is one of the best things you can do for their education.
Every reader has a favorite thing to read when they want to relax and lose themselves in a book. For me it’s Agatha Christie’s mystery books.
2020 has started, and I’m so excited to sink my teeth into the opportunities (and the books!) this year has to offer. While traveling over the Christmas 2019 season, I forgot my reading material at home, but I’m very fortunate that my family members always buy me books as presents (’twas the season to overstuff my bookshelves and beam with fanatical pride as they groan under the weight of my intellectual wallpaper). One of the books I was given was Seven Days of Us by Francesca Hornak. Initially I thought it was just going to be this adorably cloying novel about a dysfunctional family, maybe with a snarky bite. I was proven correct in the best way.
I did it y’all! I realize that reading one book for fun per month may not seem like a lot to many of you, but to this teacher/student/writer, one additional book per month was a HUGE accomplishment. So, this year I’m doing it again.
There are a lot of BIG book series out there, especially in Sci-fi and Fantasy. Some of them are amazing! Some…not so much.
The problem is: how do you know if it’s worth it? Some Mega Series have more than 10 books. Reading that much is a big commitment!
