Morticia Addams just might be the most underrated female character of all time. She’s also one I hold near and dear to my heart. A loving mother, half of what is arguably the most wonderful partnership, always full of strange, wacky wisdom… what more could I have asked for in a fictional parent?
Morticia has held the style icon title for decades now, and rightfully so. Though she’s worn many faces over the years, from actress to actress, her sultry, vampy, goth-glam has stayed the same. While that aesthetic necessarily may not be for everyone (but seriously, guys: don’t knock it till you try it), I think everyone could take a page out of Morticia’s styling book every once in awhile.
All black everything
I’ve praised a lot of previous style icons for the way they play with bold colors and patterns, but sometimes, sticking to the basics is just as fun. Morticia’s preference for the monochromatic look makes her always appear sleek, chic, and sophisticated (and has always appealed to the forever-emo kid in me).
Slinky dresses, necklines for days
Name a more iconic outfit than Morticia’s plunging black dress, I’ll wait. Deep-v necklines have been synonymous with red carpet glam for years now, and certainly don’t seem to be going anywhere. It’s a glamorous and modern look that flatters everyone, so it’s safe to say Morticia was way ahead of her time.
Red nails, red lips
Morticia’s perfectly coordinated lip and nail color made for my favorite color combo of all time. Red and black has been a classic combo for ages and will never not remind us of an 80’s YSL runway or a pair of Louboutin pumps. Plus, no matter what else you do, nothing will pull your look together better than a classic red lip.
Contour before contour was contour
Whoever said the Kardashians started the contour craze was seriously disturbed. Look at that definition! Add some volume to her brows and you’ll have an Instagram model-worthy makeup look, middle part included. Once again: way ahead of her time. Style icon, or ultimate future trendsetter?
