For quite some time now, Espionage Cosmetics has been killing the nail wrap game (check out Jordan’s thoughts on them). But last year, they released two palettes for the nerd in all of us: the Colovaria palette, and the RPG palette. Both feature some powerful pops of color. But, being the Harry Potter Fangirl that I am, I opted for Colovaria.

Colovaria features four distinct shades:

Alohomora (a bright, almost peachy gold), Obliviate (a sparkly black), Ferum (a minty teal), and Lacarnum Inflamari (a burgundy). To me, these colors are fun add-ons, but don’t necessarily make a full palette.

The formula of these is pretty nice. It’s not too soft but is easy to get on a brush. It’s quite pigmented, so it doesn’t take a ton of work to get color onto your eyes. However, there is a pretty solid amount of fallout. I recommend being sure to tap your brush when using these shades, otherwise you’ll be getting extra bits all along your cheekbone.

This palette comes with a brush, which I recommend tossing straight into the trash. It is a tolerable brush for doing arm swatches, but it’s not great for actually using on your face. If you like makeup but don’t have money to spend on brushes, keep it. Otherwise, it belongs in the garbage.

These colors really are something else.

As a devout Slytherin, I find frustration in the fact that the easiest daily look from this palette is a combination of Gryffindor colors (Lacarnum Inflamari and Alohomora). However, Obliviate and Ferum can make a great statement look; I struggled but persevered because I feel like that section was made for me, as mint is my favorite color and black is a big must in my life.

I think the lack of transition shades is a bit glaring, and I struggled to use just these four shades for these looks. But it works if you have a neutral palette to go along with it (warm tone will go best with Alohomora and Lacarnum Inflamari and cool with Ferum and Obliviate).

Altogether, this is a pretty dang good palette. The colors are fun, the formula and pigment are great, and it’s Harry Potter themed, so in (and on) my eyes, it’s a win. Currently, the Colovaria Palette is available on Espionage Cosmetics for $35. Go check it out!
