Even though it’s four hours away, Fantom Comics was the first local comic book shop that felt like home to me. Raven Smith was one of the first people I met there, and I’m so glad to talk to her about all things comics!

Fantom Comics is a really special place that hosts all kinds of incredible events. They have trivia nights, book clubs, signings, and tons of other themed parties. They even run a kid’s convention once a year!

Raven has two really great pieces of advice for new comic readers. One, never be afraid to go into a comic book shop. If anyone there tries to quiz you or makes you feel like you don’t belong, that’s not a shop you want to hang out in anyway. And two, if you’re looking for new comics to read, think about your favorite TV show or movie. That should be a great way for shop owners to recommend a series you might love!

If you live in/near or plan to visit the D.C. area, please stop by Fantom Comics at 2010 P St NW, Washington, DC. You can also check them out everywhere online @FantomComics.
