I got an email about books featuring teen pregnancy, and Belly Up by Eva Darrows was on the list. While it wasn’t a priority to read at the time, I saw it again for an additional 20 percent off at Barnes and Noble one day, so I grabbed it. It’s around 350 pages, so I knew it’d be a quick read.
Belly Up is about teen pregnancy. Serendipity (Sara) goes to a party with her best friend the summer before senior year. There, she sees her cheating ex and meets a super cute guy named Jack. She and Jack get it on in his truck, and don’t use any kind of protection. A couple weeks later, Sara finds out she’s pregnant.
This book follows Sara as she moves to a new school for her senior year, and deals with pregnancy. She’s 17, the new girl at school, and pregnant, so you know life can’t go smoothly. It is interesting to read about someone deal with a stressful situation in such a positive manner. Sara is lucky, and has a lot of support.
I really enjoyed Belly Up. I didn’t think it would be my cup of tea, as it’s not my usual YA choice. But I’m glad I read it; it tugged at my heartstrings in ways I definitely wasn’t expecting.
If you’re into books about teen pregnancy, growing up, being a high-school senior, or just dealing with difficult situations, check out Belly Up. It’s a lot of fun, and an all around lovely read.
