In the spirit of transparency, I’ll admit I’ve never been consistent in watching and keeping up with Doctor Who. Even the biggest Whovian can admit that it’s a bit of a commitment, and I just never found the time to be involved enough where I understood everything that was happening at all times. Of course, then it was announced Jodie Whittaker would take the reigns of the TARDIS next season, making The Doctor a woman for the first time. This was as good a reason as any to finally get completely caught up. And in my rewatch, I found appreciation for a companion that got a lot of undeserved hate: Clara Oswald.

Clara seemed to be the scapegoat for a lot of fans’ problems with seasons 7-9 of Doctor Who. And those problems had nothing to do with her “being the worst.” Often, these “problems” were really just poorly-executed storylines and/or misogyny. I’m not jumping on that bandwagon, though. I really enjoyed Clara. I thought, despite a lot of things, her character developed over those 2.5 seasons and her relationship with The Doctor was the most complex one I’ve seen yet.

But, you know what I’m really here to talk about. And that’s how Clara Oswald is the best-dressed companion Doctor Who has seen yet, so let’s take a peek into her wardrobe.

NYCC fashion is… tricky. October weather in New York is unpredictable. If it’s warm outside, it’s usually freezing inside, and it’s always insanely humid, even if it’s only 70 degrees. All of that usually leaves part of me wanting to wear leggings, a tank, and a cardigan every day, especially when I have to work. The other part of me, though– the part that literally went to fashion school– never allows that.

So, I planned my con outfits carefully. I started watching the weather closely as far in advance as I could. I searched through the depths of my closet to ensure I wouldn’t have to go on yet another shopping spree, and I did pretty well. (Turned out I already owned everything except for a cardigan I needed to buy for the season anyway.) And finally, when the weekend came, I had four, perfectly planned-out outfits for NYCC. Here’s what I wore!

Note: Bad lighting brought to you by unpredictable weather!

Annalise Keating is one of the most complex characters I’ve ever encountered in television. But, surprising nobody, Viola Davis always gives 110% in her performance, so there’s a lot more to focus on than just what she’s wearing.

But, it’s still hard to miss.

When I think about modern, stylish, brilliant, powerful women in television, Annalise Keating and Olivia Pope are the first names that come to mind. So, it was no surprise to learn that these two fictional powerhouses are styled by the same person. The two characters seem to have more and more in common as I continue to watch. But, their senses of style are still distinct and completely them.

In Annalise’s closet, you’ll find…

It’s the last day of New York Comic Con. You’re tired. Your feet hurt. You probably spent a bit more money than you’d planned to. But it was all in the name of fun and fandom, right? Right? Regardless of whether you were there for a day or a weekend, you probably need some time to relax and recharge. So, what better time is there to share my post-con skincare routine with my fellow geeks?

Of course, it isn’t exclusively for after NYCC, or any con at all. You can follow my routine whenever you feel like your skin needs a little extra TLC.

No skincare routine can start without washing your face, so do that first!

‘Tis the season of crunchy leaves, cooler weather, and pumpkin picking. That’s right: October is finally here! You know what that means, don’t you? Well, if you said “HALLOWEEN!”, you’re technically correct. But do you know what else it means? Jordandené has released a spooky new shirt of the month!

2017 brought us a lot of terrible feelings but it was no surprise that Marvel was our saving grace. You know what I’m talking about, don’t you? Of course you do: Thor: Ragnarok! It had everything we didn’t expect but needed so badly from a Thor movie. A killer soundtrack! Cate Blanchett and Tessa Thompson looking gorgeous! Jeff Goldblum in eyeliner! Knee-slapping humor! Directed by Taika Waititi! Wait– directed by Taika Waititi and featuring a cameo by him as the lovable Korg! Could we have asked for anything better?

The nostalgia of That 70’s Show appeals to me in the strangest way possible. Instead, I remember catching a rerun every day after school as I rushed through my homework until one day, it hit my underdeveloped preteen brain that I had finally gotten to the point where I’d seen every episode at least twice. (As I write this, my television-watching habits are starting to make a lot more sense.) So, strangely enough, That 70’s Show doesn’t make me nostalgic for the era it celebrates (that I was never a part of), nor does it remind me of the late 90’s when it debuted (because I was at the age where certain cartoons were even questionable then.) Instead, it just brings me back to a simpler time in my life, one where my biggest concerns were presenting a project in front of my science class and how I could bring a touch of Jackie Burkhart into my wardrobe.

I never expected to love a character like Jackie Burkhart, especially not during my #angsty years. But, it happened. She was selfish, superficial, and a tad annoying, sure, but my god, was she hilarious. And never forget that Mila Kunis was only 14 when she first started filming. ICONIC.

But, most importantly, she jumpstarted my endless love of 70’s fashion. Some of the key elements to her wardrobe that I still appreciate today are…

I love everything fashion and beauty, but I’m not one who always wants to sacrifice comfort for the sake of it. This especially applies to working at and attending conventions. Thousands of people crammed into one building, harsh fluorescent lights, and blasting AC that somehow make the entire building both humid and freezing at the same time certainly doesn’t sound like an event to dress up for. (That’s why I admire cosplayers so much. Those that wear their cosplay all day operate on a level of commitment I will never be able to comprehend.) Of course, years of convention-going experience has prepped me for the worst conditions. And with NYCC just around the corner, I figured there’s no better time to share with you my five comic con beauty essentials!

Without these five products, I wouldn’t survive any con, let alone my biggest one of the year next weekend.

To be completely honest, the original run of Dynasty was way before my time. So far behind, in fact, that when The CW decided to reboot the series last year, I had no idea it was a remake. What I did know before that, however, was that Fallon Carrington, played perfectly by Elizabeth Gillies, was the queen of all queens.

Fallon Carrington is one of those characters you know is bad news, no matter which run of Dynasty you’re watching. She is s a troublemaker on all fronts. She’s feisty, overprivileged, and manipulative… so why is it that I still root for her? I mean, she is also incredibly intelligent, business-savvy, and ambitious. Maybe there’s a bit of fellow Slytherin bias here, but from what I’ve watched so far, it seems like everyone else is just as bad. So, if I can’t hope for the best for the main protagonist of a show, what’s the point?

I know, I know: I’ve talked a lot about how amazing the Jordandené zipper pouches are. But, that’s only because I firmly believe that everyone needs at least one in their life. And, with New York Comic Con just around the corner, I wanted to share a little idea I’ve had for a while now: a mini con survival kit.

Whether you’re a cosplayer, seasoned convention-goer, or manning a booth like me, you definitely need to put together something like this. And what better way to do it with one of Jordandené’s zipper pouches?

In case you missed it, my post two weeks ago was all about the new RockLove x Disney jewelry collection. Obviously, seeing two brands I adore come together was a dream come true, especially when it tapped into Disney’s underrated darker side. Plus, I’ve mentioned and loved so many others in the past: ColourPop x My Little Pony. Bésame Cosmetics x Agent Carter. Columbia x Star Wars!!! So, that really got me thinking: what would my dream geeky fashion collaborations be?

Sadly, I can’t promise that any of these are in the works, nor can I gauge the likelihood of them ever happening. But, it’s still fun to think about, right? (But, if you’re well-connected and know how to get any of these ideas rolling, you know where to find me.)
