Adventures in Babysitting is one of my favorite comfort movies. Looking back on it, especially since the rise of the MCU, Sarah is a fangirl ahead of her time. Only recently has a character with geeky interests been more than the butt of jokes. That certainly didn’t happen in 1987 when the movie came out, and certainly not for young girls.
Growing up in the ’80s, one of my favorite books was In a Dark Dark Room by Alvin Schwartz . It’s a collection of scary stories and poems for kids. I checked it out of the library quite a few times before my mom bought me my own copy.
I have become a big fan of the show The Good Place, so it was natural for me to want to cosplay as the character Janet. For uninitiated Janet is “not a girl” and “not a robot”, but is the foundational mainframe for the neighborhood. She contains all the knowledge in the universe and can answer almost any question and make almost anything appear upon request. Janet even has a “ride or die protocol” she can engage if the need arises.
Westside by W.M. Akers would best be described as a fantastical mystery. It has elements of both fantasy and mystery, and draws you in to a world both familiar and strange.
This is the recap for the second part of The Good Place Season 3:
THERE WILL BE SPOILERS!
THERE WILL BE SPOILERS!
It’s time to return to Earth for my binge-watch of The Good Place Season 3. This recap post is going to cover the first two-thirds of the season. I had way too much shirt to talk about so I split it up into two parts.
My Pop Culture Apology is to a character that I disliked when I was younger. Now with time and re-watching, I have realized how great she really is. I am here to apologize to Janine Melnitz.
I read more in the summer than other parts of the year as my other hobbies don’t mix well with hot weather. Mysteries are some of my favorites for the season. The Magic Men series by Elly Griffiths, is just the sort of series that I love. The first book in the series is The Zig Zag Girl.
Much of the book The Night Tiger by Yangsee Choo takes place on the border between the real world and the world of the dead. The real world is 1931 Malaya (what Malaysia was called in colonial times). The world of the dead, or more specifically the transition place between the living and the dead, has tall grass, lots of water, and a train to carry the newly departed across.
Welcome back to my The Good Place binge watch. There will be SPOILERS for seasons 1 and 2. Season 2, like season 1, is made up of 13 half hour episodes.
