I have some pretty strong feelings about this book, and I hate that they aren’t all positive. It’s a bit of a mixed bag, so let’s dive right in.
Hey geeks, Emily here with another fantastic recent read! I was recommended The Night Circus by a friend who also recommended Caraval; she told me that if I enjoyed Caraval (I did) then I would almost definitely love The Night Circus, and then she lent me both of her books. I absolutely adored The Night Circus, but it got off to a bit of a slow start. Let’s get into it!
Last year, my mum and I packed up some clothing and toiletries, and crossed the ocean. We went to Ireland and England with a pretty clear goal: Harry Potter. The trip was originally so we could go to Leaky Con, mashed with the vow that I made to myself while finishing the Potter series; I will be in England when Harry brings his kids to King’s Cross. While not everything worked out to a t (I was still in Ireland as the Hogwarts express pulled out of Platform 9 3/4), we did get to see a lot of Potter stuff, including Leaky Con. I came back with some phenomenal items, but some of the most practical are the beauty and cleansing products I bought.
A little while back, I read The Princess Saves Herself in This One by Amanda Lovelace, and the following day, I bought the second book, The Witch Doesn’t Burn in This One. They are both parts of the “women are some sort of magic” series, and they live up to that title.
If we have spoken for ten minutes or more, you know I’m a massive fan of Zodiac Starforce. ZS is a magical girl comic from creators Kevin Panetta and Paulina Ganucheau. Starring five incredible ladies, Zodiac Starforce deals with regular high school problems, cut with fighting monsters. It’s a lot. But this crew is up for it.
I’ve been reading a lot of fiction. It’s my favorite genre, and is usually easiest for me to read, because escaping into books can be truly wonderful. But sometimes, I need a little dose of nonfiction; a moment to live in someone else’s story. I picked up The Princess Saves Herself in This One by Amanda Lovelace not knowing what exactly was in store, but I’m glad I checked it out.
As of writing this, I’ve run seven runDisney events. I have done two in-person half marathons, an in-person 10k, three virtual 5ks, and a virtual half marathon. Those three half marathons are the only ones I’ve done, and I did them all this year. Running is relatively new to me; I discovered my love of it about 2 years ago, and I’ve been doing it ever since. But there is truly nothing like a race through Walt Disney World, so I’ve got some tips to help you through your first runDisney event!
I think I’ve always wanted to be Buttercup from the Powerpuff Girls. She’s badass, strong, and looks great in green. When I saw that PeriPera sold Powerpuff Girl makeup on Amazon, I jumped at the possibility of becoming a bit more like that tough gal. Since PeriPera is a company from outside of the United States, it took a bit longer than Amazon Prime’s usual 2-day window to get my lipstick, but once it was in my hands, I was in love.
There are some books that you can read through, and be satisfied. There are others that we lovingly call page-turners. But, there are few books I’ve found that grab you by the shoulders and demand that you continue to read. These books that keep readers from sleeping, or doing other normal things like eating and showering are some of the most powerful creations to me. And V. E. Schwab has written at least three of these books. A Conjuring of Light is one of them.
Four days after the Essen Tach, Kell is in another London, chained, with his magic seeping out of him. Osaron is searching for a new host, and travels to Red London, attacking and using everyone. While I don’t want to get too detailed, I need to talk about this book, so let’s go for it.
Alright Geeks, time to pamper! While out shopping a while back, I found Riley Rose, a cosmetic offshoot of Forever 21. I hadn’t heard anything about it before being drawn in by the crisp colors and beautiful storefront. So, I didn’t know it was related to F21 at all. But I came out, $60 poorer with a bag full of face masks. The mask I knew I had to share with you, fellow cosmetic warriors, is the Gudetama Mask.
