Believe it or not, springtime is just around the corner.
I know, I know. Despite the surprise snowstorms and bitterly cold days we’ve been enduring this month, warm, sunny days and spring showers are barely out of reach.
It may seem crazy, but it’s almost time to trade in heavy boots and puffy jackets for skirts, sundresses, and tank tops. You’re gonna see a lot of fun fashion trends as the weather warms up, so here are some geek chic twists on my favorites for Spring 2018.
Vintage florals & belt bags
Florals have held their place as a springtime essential over the years. And what better way is there to freshen up your old denim skirt than with some cute floral embroidery? Belt bags (the dreaded “fanny pack”, if you must) don’t have as nice a reputation, but they’re not just for lost families of tourists before. Brands from Nine West to Chanel have put their own twists on the belt bag, and the right one can be incredibly chic. (And if you don’t believe me, just ask Rihanna.)
Tulle skirts & patent leather
(It’s not a style tip post by yours truly if it doesn’t include the classic black and red combo.)
The last time I saw patent leather in a store, I asked myself out loud, “Who still wears this?”
Apparently, that’s everyone this season. While I don’t condone channeling your inner Keanu Reeves in The Matrix, I am here for a contrasting patent leather piece with the fun, girly feel of the tulle skirts that rocked the SS ’18 runway this year.
Pastels, shades of purple, & the “updated trench”
Nothing screams springtime louder than pretty, soft pastel shades. And with Pantone’s Color of the Year being a vibrant purple hue, it came to no surprise that shades of lilac seem to be a favorite this year.
Trench coats are a spring staple as well, but this year, we get to see a fun spin on that. Experiment with different lengths, shapes, and shades of trench coats this year for a freshened up look this season.
