This week’s fictional style icon comes to you straight from binging the first two seasons of HBO’s Insecure in one sitting.
Yes, I’m jumping on the bandwagon way late. And all I can say is that I’m kicking myself for not tuning in earlier because Issa Dee is my everything.
Issa Rae was already goals to begin with in every way, shape, and form. From her killer red carpet style to teeth perfect enough to distract me episodes at a time (seriously, how did they get like that? This girl’s smile puts the Orbit gum lady to shame). Her fictional counterpart, Issa Dee, also dressed by her real-life, stylist, is no different.
It’s safe to say that this was the outfit that made me fall in love with her style. That, of course, didn’t take long, because this was fairly early in the first season. Double denim, when done right, is seriously underrated, and the pop of color on her red converse was just adorable.
While her friend may have said, “I love how you just don’t care,” as a back-handed compliment in regards to this outfit, I truly do love that. Issa will roll up to your swanky mansion party in just this, and she’ll look a million times cooler than you doing it.
Besides: when she really wants to kill the outfit game on a night out, she can, and she will.
Her workwear? Always colorful, never stuffy or boring.
And don’t even get me started on how many amazing jackets she owns.
To top it all off, if there’s a chance to use her amazing wardrobe to make a political statement, she’ll take it, she’ll style the hell out of it, she’ll slay and make you think at the same time.
Issa, girl, if you’re in the market for a new best friend, call me.
If you’re late to the party like I am, you can stream seasons 1 & 2 of Insecure on HBO today.
Do you love that effortlessly cool look that Issa wears so well? Then you’ll probably love Nomi Segal’s, too.
