It’s hard to believe the epic conclusion to the Skywalker saga, The Rise of Skywalker, is hitting the big screen in just over a month. Whether you’re a fan who’s well versed in the extended universe or more of a casual viewer, one thing’s for certain – everyone’s buzzing about Star Wars right now.
Dapper Day Fall 2019 at Disneyland, CA was the first weekend of November. It was also the first time one at the parks could include Galaxy’s Edge since that land opened after Spring Dapper Day had already taken place. Naturally, my sister and I decided to participate for the first time because Star Wars. With one month left before the conclusion of the Skywalker Saga, it felt like a nice way to kick off our celebration of the series.
For week three of the Fashion Fix challenge, I had a ton of ideas for different characters I wanted to try to embody. Complex female characters are kind of my thing, and happen to be this week’s theme. I thought about nerdy Velma from Scooby Doo. Julia Wicker from The Magicians (which I just finished binge watching and am now going through withdrawals). And finally, one of my favorite TV latinas, Rosa Diaz from Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
My last Disneybound post, Light Side Style, outfitted you to represent the Jedi Order or join the Resistance when you arrive at Disney’s Star Wars-themed land Galaxy’s Edge. This time, I share Dark Side Disneybound options.
Where there is Light, there is also Dark, and that’s true at Black Spire Outpost, which includes the presence of the sinister First Order. So if you’re inclined towards Imperial might or the mysterious Knights of Ren, these looks are for you.
This week, Disneyland opens its much anticipated Star Wars-themed land, Galaxy’s Edge*. This begs the question, what are you going to wear? Are you planning a Star Wars Disneybound?
In this 2-part blog post, I’m getting you outfitted for your visit to the Black Spire Outpost in either Light Side style or Dark Side chic.
Usually, when folks are kids, their parents take them to Disney. That didn’t happen in my family; the first time I visited Florida was when I worked in Walt Disney World. I had the immense pleasure of experiencing the magic for the first time as a 19 year old, but my mum never went. She helped me drag all of my crap to my third floor apartment and said, “I’ll see you in six months!”
Whether you refer to her as Princess or General, the name Leia Organa instantly brings a lot of iconic costumes to mind. The Star Wars universe was certainly a game changer for futuristic sci-fi fashion. And she’d still be a game-changer years later, too– our favorite rebel princess would still influence Fashion Week runways decades later.
We’ll remember Leia for a lot of things: her bravery, her boldness, her strong will, and…
This list started as five characters I’d invite to a fictional dinner party… but I think it ended up being a list of people I wish would ask me out to dinner (see also: my fictional boyfriends). Either way, I’m going with it.
Note: This article contains spoilers for Solo: A Star Wars Story. If you haven’t seen it yet and want to come in fresh, come back after you’ve seen it.
Takes on Solo: A Star Wars Story are as broad as the galaxy it takes place in. Sadly, a variety of factors means it’s the poorest-performing Star Wars movie ever. Which is a shame, as it’s a fun film that explores some interesting times in the series canon.
On the surface (and, well, in general), Solo is the origin story for Han Solo and his whole deal. We don’t see every single caper that made him the lovable jerk he is by Episode IV, but we get the high points. We even see how he got his name. And that moment — a throwaway, almost corny move — is our cipher for the movie.
Super cute plush dolls from KMSxCO fill my studio. If you haven’t checked out her shop, Andrea Gilletti creates all kinds of spooky products. They range from tombstone pillows to serial killer Valentine’s to really sweet enamel pins.
