While learning to navigate our new socially distant lives, many of us have turned to reading and video games to keep hold of our sanity. Melissa Brinks combines both with her new book Little Book of Video Games: 70 Classics that Everyone Should Know and Play.
Quite some time ago, I had the immense pleasure of receiving a couple Pop Classics from Quirk Books. Quirk is one of my favorite publishers, but as my TBR is too big, and there are nowhere near enough hours in the day, these lovely books fell by the wayside.
I don’t think I’ve ever finished a series I started to review for Sartorial Geek and, with 2020 being a clean slate, I decided maybe that should be changed (also: we all know comics go out-of-print after a certain number of years, so this is my way of trying to finish all the series I’ve gotten into). I sort of gave up on most of the series I’ve previously discussed— except for the New 52 Nightwing (I know, I know, everyone tells me I can skip it and just get into Grayson, so I thought I’d give the second volume a try before I made a judgement). So, here we go with Nightwing Volume 2: Night of the Owls.
I’ve been excited for this book since I first saw the cover. Heck, the day that I started reading it, my friend forwarded me an email featuring the cover exclusively because it looked like a book I would read. She was right, of course, and I finished it and loved it!
I did a lot of reading in 2019, y’all. I know I have the pleasure of writing about many of the books I’ve read here, and occasionally elsewhere as well. I’ve always used that as an excuse to buy more books (also, there’s no such thing as too many books). But as I came closer and closer to my second reading goal of 2019, I found that I have a lot of unread books in my possession!
I love mystery stories, despite being a terrible detective myself. One of my favorite series (as in pre-order months in advance) is the Flavia de Luce series by Alan Bradley. They have so many things that appeal to mystery lovers: an English countryside setting, a past-its-prime estate, a loyal sidekick. What it has that others don’t is a heroine unmatched in cleverness and sass, Flavia de Luce.
