Event Recap: Flame Con 2018

What is Flame Con?

Flame Con was created just three years ago for a lot of reasons, but one core idea brought so many wonderful people together: to be NYC’s first queer comic con… and eventually the world’s largest. A few weeks ago, the Sartorial Geek/Jordandené team went to join in on the fun. After all, the summer issue of our magazine was all about celebrating love in all its beautiful forms!

We spent the weekend of August 18-19 in the ballroom of the Sheraton Hotel in Times Square. We had an amazing time, made so many new friends, and want to share our experience with you. Hopefully, it’ll be enough to convince you to check it out for yourself next year!

In case you missed it, the Sartorial Geek and WORD bookstore have teamed up to bring you monthly happy hour meetups where you can let your geek flag fly. Once a month, you can join us IRL at WORD’s Brooklyn location for drinks, games, and the best way to connect with other proud geeks in our community. In celebration of Harry James Potter, who will turn 38 on July 31st, we all came together for an event any Potterhead can get behind: a Hogwarts house party!

July’s event was to celebrate reading in all forms, be it comics, zines, or novels. And, of course: our very own book club.
