The Harry Potter franchise changed the landscape of reading forever. The series reawakened a love of reading in adults and children alike.

But some of us get stuck with knowing what to read next. The problem with a great series is that they cause a book hangover (It’s a real thing. There’s an Urban Dictionary definition and everything).

You’re sad that the story is over, and reluctant to try anything new because it won’t be as good.

Never fear! There are book nerds like me who can confidently recommend what you should read next.

Welcome back, Sartorial Geeks! This week, we sat down to chat with Benita Botello, founder of Book Beau.

Commuters, we’ve all been here: you have a long train or bus ride ahead of you. All you want is to sit down and get lost in your current read for the next half hour or so, but when you take it out of your bag, the cover is bent, the pages are crushed, and your precious book is ruined. What’s a bookworm to do?

I love mystery stories, despite being a terrible detective myself. One of my favorite series (as in pre-order months in advance) is the Flavia de Luce series by Alan Bradley. They have so many things that appeal to mystery lovers: an English countryside setting, a past-its-prime estate, a loyal sidekick. What it has that others don’t is a heroine unmatched in cleverness and sass, Flavia de Luce.

I have been sitting here trying to come up with a clever intro for about 30 minutes.

That’s a lie. It’s only been five minutes. The rest of that time has been devoted to working around my family’s newest addition— a one-eyed cat who loves constant attention and snuggles. And won’t settle for anything less (I mean, at least he knows his worth).

He’s going through a phase of wanting to give me love-bites and then slobbering all over my fingers with his adorably raspy tongue, and honestly, I’ve tried to distract him and remove him from my work area. But he’s not having any part of that. So basically what will be happening for the duration of this review is I’ll be valiantly trying to string together cohesive sentences. He’ll be meowing loudly, pawing at my hands, and snatching my fingers into his paws so he can glomp on them.
