In my first post on Staying Warm and Geek Chic, I used a winter coat to get multi-seasonal wear out of my clothes. The outfit was very casual and comprised of clothing basics. For the outfit featured in this post, I’m leaning heavier into the geek chic part of my topic.

Don’t worry though! You’ll still be cozy because the essential piece here is also a winter coat. Taking a page from the Disney/geekbound handbook, I let a character and elements of its universe inspire this outfit. Let’s travel through time and space aboard the TARDIS.

Outfit 2: Galactic Blues

I made one primary color my focal point. In this case, the blue of my coat informed everything else, much like how the color is a definitive feature of the Doctor’s time machine. I thought about creating a truly monochromatic look with a button-down shirt and pants in different shades of blue, but I settled for a tunic-length galaxy-print hoodie instead!

Galaxy-print won because I love the more overt flaunting of fandom. The TARDIS is, after all, often hurtling through star fields and nebulae. However, my original monochromatic idea is more subtle and would’ve been a great office appropriate look. So there are many style possibilities to choose from!

The tailored coat dresses up the more casual fit of the hoodie, and I kept things simple and chic with black leggings. I used accessories to further the space and TARDIS theme. My silvery rain boots add metallic shine, and my white beret is a nod to the light on top of the TARDIS.

Again, the coat is the star of my outfit but in a different way from Outfit 1. This coat is a classic cut and not loudly patterned, but it still makes a statement. Think Constantine and Castiel’s ubiquitous trench or modern Sherlock’s Belstaff overcoat. It doesn’t need to be particularly flashy to be the key component of your look.

In my last outfit post, my coat felt more like an accessory, a cake topper if you will. This time, I used it as a building block from the start. It’s just another way to think about styling. And when I’m thinking about how to stay warm, my outerwear often is the first thing I think about!

Have you ever created an outfit centered on one specific thing?

Trying to find out where to find the summer dress Tracy Ross wore on Blackish, that was blue with rope crossing the front as straps.

    • I’d check the site ShopYourTV. They do a pretty great job sourcing where the clothes characters are wearing are from!
