This week’s Sartorial Geek of the Week is the introspective, outspoken, and indefatigable The Yellow Squib! Aivi, the squib behind the account, is an artist, activist, research scientist, and neuropathologist. In other words, she’s as Ravenclaw as they come!

The Asian-American Potterhead has been drawing and painting for as long as she can remember. Even with the demands of her full-time job working as a muggle healer combating Alzheimer’s Diease, she still finds the time to unleash her creativity.

And through her art, Avivi has begun to explore activism and the fight for more diverse and inclusive representation in the creative world and beyond. She sees her illustrations as, “a way of keeping myself accountable.”

Her latest project? A series dedicated to women in the STEM field. Especially Black women and women of color. “My ultimate goal is to turn them into prints or cards I could sell and have the proceeds go towards organizations that help young underrepresented women access those opportunities.”

Women uplifting women, smashing expectations, and continuing to speak up are all huge motivators for Aivi. Of activism, she says, “It should be a way of life and lifelong awareness and commitment to change, not just some trendy thing.”

So summon up your inner Ravenclaw and let’s jinx the mundane into the magical with this week’s inspirational and empowering Sartorial Geek of the Week: The Yellow Squib!

Sartorial Geek of The Week: The Yellow Squib

Name: Aivi!

Alter Ego: The Yellow Squib.

Top Fandom: That’s really tough. I’d have to say it’s certainly Harry Potter but that may be tied with Lord of the Rings—my wedding band is actually the one ring! After that, Doctor Who is another major fandom, and I’m cutting myself off here because I could easily go down the rabbit hole with more fandoms.

Hogwarts House: Proud Ravenclaw!

Fictional Style Icon: Ok, I got it. It would be Clara Oswald, one of my favorite Doctor Who companions. My second style icon[s] would be Frodo or Bilbo Baggins LOL. Comfy Hobbit chic.

Last Read: The last book I’ve read is The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes [in] The Hunger Games Series.

Favorite Comfort Film: My favorite comfort film is split: Pride and Prejudice (the Keira Knightly version) when I’m with my girlfriends and Jane Eyre (the one with Mia Wasikowska) for when I want alone time. It’s usually the latter.

First Fictional Crush: My first fictional crush was Legolas. I loved him so much I wrote a song about him and played it at my school talent show back in HS.

Where Did You Get The Inspiration For Your Username?: I first made this account as a HP fan account . . . [and] I thought of the name because I’m Asian and wanted to take back the derogatory term being “yellow.” . . . I chose to be a squib because I thought it was a bit tongue-in-cheek way of not taking myself too seriously on this platform [Instagram].
