Dapper Day Fall 2019 at Disneyland, CA was the first weekend of November. It was also the first time one at the parks could include Galaxy’s Edge since that land opened after Spring Dapper Day had already taken place. Naturally, my sister and I decided to participate for the first time because Star Wars. With one month left before the conclusion of the Skywalker Saga, it felt like a nice way to kick off our celebration of the series.
Fictional Style Icon: A tie: Claudia Kishi (Babysitter’s Club) & Queen Margo, the destroyer (“The Magicians”)
Take a screenshot of your schedule (or other important info you need during the con). Convention centers often have unreliable or no cell service.
I have become a big fan of the show The Good Place, so it was natural for me to want to cosplay as the character Janet. For uninitiated…
I am an incredibly lucky teacher in that I have the distinct pleasure of teaching some students who are just as nerdy as I am. And, because they…
As a lover of both fashion and geekery, I often find myself dressing in keeping with the games I’ve been playing lately. This doesn’t necessarily mean dressing in…
Victoria (a.k.a. V.E.) Schwab is an incredible author and gift to the writing community. If you aren’t familiar with her work, she has written middle grade (City of Ghosts), young adult (The Archived), and adult fiction (Shades of Magic). She also has a comic and has been teasing some Hollywood adventures, so you’re going to want to follow her @veschwab for news on that!
Before I Go To Sleep is a mystery thriller with an insidiously slow burn. It’s like the funhouse version of Adam Sandler’s 50 First Dates: girl meets boy, they fall in love and get married, girl is the victim of a tragic accident that leaves her a permanent amnesiac who is horrified to wake up to the man she loves (a virtual stranger to her!) every morning thereafter. It has the ingredients to be an awkward, lopsided love story filled with courage, heart, and poetic realizations about the human condition— but it’s actual nightmare fuel.
This week’s self care tip is very polarizing for Liz and Jordan. One is super into it, and one is very against. How do you feel?
I’ve grown up on Stephen King’s writing. It all started with a book report. As a lonely kid with no real friends at first, I felt pretty lost…
They’re creepy and they’re kooky.Mysterious and spooky. That’s right, they’re the delightfully dreadful Addams family. *snap* *snap* The Addams Family was originally created by cartoonist Charles Addams in…
I am so so excited to chat this week with my buddy Liana Kangas. Not only is Liana one of the most supportive geek girls I’ve had the pleasure of meeting, she is also a badass comics artist.
After our incredible summer challenge, we were so excited to see the looks that would come out of our first Spooky Halloween challenge. And friends, you did not disappoint.
The adult animated sitcom Daria was on MTV and our screens from 1997 to 2002. The sarcastic high school teenager Daria Morgendorffer had her first appearance on the show Beavis and…
This year I was thrilled to see more astounding mechanical builds, with their lighting rigs and moving parts, as well as a lot of ingenious mash-ups, cross gender play, and flat-out perfect renderings of some of my favorite characters. Check out the gallery below to see just a few of the awesome cosplayers I encountered.

The nice thing about Disneybounding compared to cosplay is you don’t have to be screen accurate. Instead of copying a character’s makeup, you get to express the character through your makeup. There’s nothing more fun than doing a shimmery purple and black smokey eye and pairing it with a dark red lip to portray the Evil Queen from Snow White.
This week we’re chatting with Ben Dobyns, Executive Producer and founder of Zombie Orpheus Entertainment and The Fantasy Network.
Who doesn’t love to play the “what if” game of allegiance flipping and genre switching? Twisted Tuesday’s theme is all about subversions and mash-ups. We want to see characters with edgy makeovers like Goth Disney Princesses or Roller Derby Beauxbaton witches. We want your heroes gone bad – Dark Rey, anyone? – or villains gone good.
Westside by W.M. Akers would best be described as a fantastical mystery. It has elements of both fantasy and mystery, and draws you in to a world both familiar and strange.
The first day of the challenge had to be about monsters, arguably the A-Listers of spooky season. Get inspired by your favorite bloodsuckers, were-creatures, and things that go bump in the night. And you don’t have to look to just classic horror monsters. Mythical beasties and modern monsters are fair game, too. Want to pay homage to the vampires of Twilight? Go for it! Is the Babadook your fashion icon? Show us!
