Hey geeks, Emily here with another fantastic recent read! I was recommended The Night Circus by a friend who also recommended Caraval; she told me that if I enjoyed Caraval (I did) then I would almost definitely love The Night Circus, and then she lent me both of her books. I absolutely adored The Night Circus, but it got off to a bit of a slow start. Let’s get into it!

The Night Circus is about three main things; the Night Circus itself (aka Le Cirque des Rêves in the book), a game, and love. The game is a dangerous one, with very little explanation for the characters and for us. The game is an exhibition of skill, a way for two masters of magic to show off their well groomed pupils, and see who is the better master.

The two pupils are Marco and Celia, and they are taught in incredibly different ways; Celia has a natural gift that must be honed, while Marco has a glimmer of magic, and needs to be taught almost everything. The Circus itself is the grounds for the game, making it a massive and public display. But very few people are aware of the game, and instead, they just see a beautiful and unique Circus.

The love aspect of this book is absolutely fantastic. This book doesn’t only show romantic love, but also the love of a place, and the love of friends. I think that it is so incredibly important that people read about the many types of love, and this book makes that possible.

I don’t want to delve too deeply into the plot, because this is a book you should read. There’s magic, adventure, and love, so what else do you need? Go forth and read!
