I’m a firm believer in dressing up no matter what the occasion. Going on a quick Target run? Have dinner plans at a super casual restaurant? Taking your dog out for a walk? Dress to the nines . . . but make it geeky!

Like many geeky fashionistas, I’m always taking inspiration from beloved (and love to hate) characters from books, movies, and tv shows. Since I’ve been riding high on Marvel, I created a fun look with retro flair inspired by Minn-Erva from Captain Marvel, as portrayed by Gemma Chan. While I was bummed her character wasn’t fully fleshed out, there’s no denying that her aesthetic is cool AF.

Getting Those Minn-Erva Vibes

When I style a casual cosplay/Disneybound, I like to look up pics of the character and make mental notes of all the key colors and details of their outfit. Here’s how I broke down Minn-Erva’s:

So, for my casual cosplay I wore a dark green three-quarter sleeve top with a black circle skirt, and a gunmetal belt and ballet flats to represent the colors of her Starforce uniform. To represent the star insignia on her uniform, I rocked a studded statement necklace with stars, and Captain Marvel stud earrings from Hot Topic.

I took cues from her blue skin with blue eyeshadow and styled my hair with a swooping side part like hers. My hair is conveniently blue right now, so it really helps get the Minn-Erva aesthetic across!

Kate Spade once said, “Dressing up begins at age 5 and truly never ends” and she is ever so right! Do you like casually cosplaying too? Who are some characters whose style you love to emulate?
