Episode 4 picks up right where Episode 3 left off – with Luke getting his ass handed to him by Bushmaster. After coming to and finding a group of (former?) fans standing over him, Luke heads back to the barber shop; when Bobby sees Luke in such a state and asks if he should call Claire, Luke says no. It cannot be good that there is a person who can successfully attack Luke AND that Claire is no longer around to patch Luke up – physically AND emotionally.

Misty is disgusted with all of her colleagues (none of whom seem as concerned by Bushmaster OR Mariah as she is), so she goes off on her own and tries to retrace Bushmaster’s steps. She finds Luke along the way, shutting him down HARD when he asks if he can crash with her for a few days – and then they find Nigel’s decapitated body in a warehouse. They meet up with Tomás, who tells them that there is some Jamaican gangster in ICE custody who might have information about Bushmaster, so Misty goes to speak with him and Luke goes to Tilda’s shop. Neither conversation is particularly fruitful or interesting (this whole episode is a bit of a yawner, tbh).

Slightly more interesting is the scene where Mariah and Bushmaster meet in person at Harlem’s Paradise. You can tell there is a LOT of family history behind this beef, even though none of it makes sense right now. All that is clear is that Bushmaster does NOT like it when Mariah goes by the name Dillard, and Mariah does NOT think Bushmaster or his family are anywhere near near her league. When Comanche approaches Mariah later with concern about her financial guru, Piranha, Mariah dismisses him out of hand. Which may come back to haunt her…because Comanche is a snitch! We see him meeting with Ridenhour, and that adds an interesting twist to an otherwise largely uninteresting episode.

Before the episode ends, Bobby tells Luke that he is leaving town to donate a kidney to his daughter – did that come out of nowhere for anyone else but me? It just seemed . . . weird. After Bobby leaves the barber shop, a process server comes in and serves Luke with a lawsuit. Will Luke Cage turn into a legal procedural? I’m not sure that would be LESS exciting than what we’ve got going on so far…
