How many times do I start a review with “Now I try not to buy a ton of makeup buuuut…?” But this one. This one is so good.

I was online browsing Hot Topic because I had HotCash to spend, and saw that HipDot’s Spongebob Collection was available. Since I have used up four eyeshadows already this year and the fiscal cost was too low to say no, I ordered both the Imaginaaation Palette and the Spongebob sheet mask.

You may remember that I have another HipDot palette—the FTW palette from Kesha. I usually think the makeup at Hot Topic is kind of crappy (especially the branded stuff), but since I have experience with HipDot, I went for it. And I’m legitimately glad that I did!

Imagination Palette from HipDot

This palette is not only adorable in theming (I mean look at Patrick just chilling), but the colors are fun, it has a mirror, and it was inexpensive. And to wrap it all up—the shadows are luxurious.

The first time I used it, I used SB-129 in my eyebrows, Wumbology in my outer corner, and a shade from BH cosmetics in my inner corner. I wasn’t sure how exactly to use the palette for a whole look. I liked it—that’s basically what I do for my everyday makeup (an orange brow, purple outer, and metallic inner-corner). But the next time I used it, I used Chocolate for my brows, Wumbology on the outer corner, SB-129 on the inner corner, and Unrecognized Talent under my eyeliner wing.

I freaking love the way it turned out.

These shades go on so smoothly that they’re actually like butter. I have the same experience when I use the FTW palette—shades go on smoothly and blend well without losing pigment.

One thing that I noticed after I ordered this Imaginaaation palette was that it’s a near dupe of Jeffree Star’s Mini Breaker palette. SB-129 is similar to Double Scoop; Wumbology is a mix of Orange Crush and Foreplay. Chocolate is a darker version of Purple Punch, and Floor It! is Slice.  I think this is extra rad for folks who don’t want support Star, because Imaginaaation has comparable colors and a similar overall vibe. But this reps childhood favorites and, again, is less expensive.

While I can’t say that I’ll be tossing all of my other makeup and exclusively using this palette, I’m really enjoying it so far. I think it’s rad, properly licensed, accessible, and fun.

The mask, however, is horrifying.

I didn’t take any pictures in it because I hated it so much, but here’s an example (Don’t click the link if you don’t like clowns; it’s pretty clownish). But the hydration that came from it was incredible.

Overall, I’m happy I made this purchase. I spent significantly less actual money on it than I would have normally (courtesy of HotTopic’s HotCash program), but I definitely believe that these products are worth paying full price for.

If you’re looking at adding a new palette to your collection, Imaginaaation is a solid choice. The colors are fun and well pigmented, the theming is incredible, and the shadows go on smoothly for all day wear. You can grab it on HotTopic and you can view the collection on HipDot.

What’s an upcoming makeup collection that you are excited about?
