As many of y’all know, I like to focus energy on panning products I already have instead of buying new ones.

But as I was refreshing ColourPop’s website for two days in a row trying to get products for my friend Ashley and I, I realized that I needed the Hocus Pocus Gather Round Sisters palette.

I went into the ordering / refreshing situation knowing that I wanted the eye glitter. Nothing else from the collection really stuck out to me. But the hype.

The hype. It got me.

Let’s start at the beginning.

Ashley and I were talking about ColourPop over dinner one day because they kept rapid-fire releasing palettes that felt very similar. I thought it may have been because there had been an uptick in buying cosmetics due to quarantine. She suggested that since they were shut down for a bit, they were catching up.

Either way, we hadn’t been all that impressed with their collections.

Literally the next day they announced a Hocus Pocus line.

I wasn’t blown away by the stuff, to be totally honest. The lip colors were basic as heck; the palette was a good everyday palette but nothing all that wild. But I was excited about the eye glitters and the lashes. The release was on a Wednesday, so I planned to be ready with my phone, refreshing the ColourPop page.

We broke the site.

Clearly, I wasn’t the only one who was ready for the release. Shopify shut down the site so much that the release was pushed to the next day. I ended up using four screens: my phone, two computers, and the phone of the guy I’m seeing. We were wildly refreshing to get what I wanted (and what Ashley wanted), and we came up short.

I ended up getting both glitters and one of the lashes. Luckily, ColourPop was also releasing the collection at Ulta, so I planned to try to get the palette for Ashley from Ulta that Sunday.

I logged on to Ulta an hour after the release, and nothing was sold out. I ordered two of the palettes because I figured it could be a good palette to focus on next year, while I finish a couple more pans from others this year. Also, the hype made me want it.

The palettes from Ulta got to me before the order from ColourPop was shipped. So of course, I did not wait to try it out.

I used “Hello, Salem,” “Dead Man’s Toe,” and “Thackery Binx” to get this look.

I think the palette has good day to night ability, which is nice. It also has stuff that I can use as daily looks without it being out of place.

Above is the first look I made with it.

Below are my swatches of the palette.

I think the biggest complaint I have with the palette is the size. I thought it was going to be a bit bigger, both in pans and actual size. But looking at other ColourPop shadows I have, they’re the same size. Another thing to note is that these shadows, like many other ColourPop shades, move. So if you’re someone who rubs their face or eyes a lot, this may not be the brand for you.

Altogether, I’m into it.

I also got my grubby lil paws on the “Amok, amok, amok, amok!” Glitterally Obsessed and “Flirty Witch” lashes. I don’t think the glitter is all that wearable, only because it is so chunky. For Halloween and specific looks, it’s perfect. For daily use, you’ve gotta think about it a bit more. The lashes are nice, but they didn’t come with lash glue, which really surprised me.

Overall, should I have bought ColourPop’s Hocus Pocus collection?

No.

I have similar colors already in my makeup collection, I don’t know how to properly wear the glitter, and I am terrible at putting on false lashes. But the packaging and hype got me.

Am I mad at myself for buying this stuff?

Not at all! I think everything is super cute, the names and vibes are fun, and I really think that the Gather Round Sisters palette is hella usable.

Did you get anything from ColourPop’s Hocus Pocus collection?

Leave your favorite shade name below! Mine’s Yabbos, of course!
