Do you want to know the most difficult thing about being in the geek community? Everyone is so. Damn. Talented. And when a bunch of talented people hone their craft and flock to places to sell it, well, let’s just say it takes quite the toll on my wallet. Linda Heredia of 1138 Clothing is one of those people.
I never thought much of fashion in the wizarding world until Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them premiered. And, in my defense, I had every right to overlook it. After watching Harry Potter wear the same blue five years in a row, I kind of gave up all hope in that department. (You know, the times he wasn’t required to dress exactly like everyone else.)
But then, we were introduced to a group of witches and wizards from the 1920’s. And everyone looked amazing. So, foot, meet mouth. Everyone else, meet the best dresser in the magical realm: Queenie Goldstein.
By now, we’ve all seen Solo: A Star Wars Story at least once, right? And we’ve all swooned over Donald Glover as Lando (or as I’ve been calling him: Childish Lambino) and demanded he has his own movie? Yeah?
Cool, just making sure. In celebration of all things Solo, here are some of my favorite finds inspired by both this film and everyone’s favorite franchise.
I remember catching the pilot episode of The Mindy Project by accident when it first aired. It played right after New Girl, with which my high school-aged self was obsessed. I vividly recall watching a drunk Mindy drive a stolen bike into a swimming pool, all while wearing the most fabulous teal sequin minidress. I was hooked immediately. Mindy was not only an absolute gem to watch onscreen with her clever quips and all-around ridiculousness. But, it was probably the first time I’d seen a show focused around a woman of color who wasn’t the traditional sample size.
I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to include Mindy Lahiri in this segment. Mindy Lahiri has been a style icon, and so much more to me, from the very beginning.
I don’t know about you guys, but every so often a stumble across a shop or brand and stare wide-eyed at their homepage with a gut feeling that screams, “I think this was made for me.” That’s exactly how I felt when I discovered Utinni Bikini last year.
I’m not going to lie to you. Chanel Oberlin, of Scream Queens fame, really, really sucks as a person. It’s a complicated relationship to have with a character. She’s not technically the villain in her story. But as a viewer, it’s hard to swallow a protagonist who does and says such horrific things. No matter how many times writers tried to redeem her, I never rooted for her to come out on top.
But sometimes, the worst people are the best dressed. I mean, look at Cruella de Vil— I don’t condone her horrible attempts, but that black midi dress and fur coat combo is not only iconic but also a trend that’s re-emerged into the spotlight in the past few years. (But, obviously, with a faux fur option. Let’s keep it that way!)
NOTE: This post isn’t completely spoiler-free, so if you have yet to see Avengers: Infinity War, you might want to revisit this later!
Now that it’s been a few weeks, everyone has had some time to process our Infinity War feelings, myself included. We’ve cried, we’ve yelled, we’ve more than likely argued with a stranger on the internet. It’s been a rollercoaster that probably won’t come to an end until we finally get Avengers 4 next year.
While it certainly hasn’t been enough time to get over these feelings and move on, it’s been enough for me to finally step back and take a look at all of the awesome creations that came out of it. Here are some of my favorite Avengers: Infinity War-inspired finds!
There were a lot of reasons to love Agent Carter during Peggy Carter’s short-lived reign on ABC, and for me personally, the realistic peek into 1940’s postwar fashion was one of them.
A few weeks ago, we showed the wonderful Bésame Cosmetics some love by featuring them in one of our Brand Spotlight posts. Today, I’m here to show off one of the very products featured in that post. That’s right: my Bésame Cosmetics Field Agent Lip Kit finally came in.
I only have one word for this collection. That word is: “WOW.”
It was incredibly easy to pass The Bold Type as something that has been done time and time again. Young women in their 20’s, New York City, glamorized jobs at a women’s magazine… It’s all reminiscent of some of our favorite rom-coms from the early 2000’s, with a dash of Sex and the City sprinkled on top.
