Sartorial Geek Spring Challenge: Morning Cuppa

As you’ve probably noticed, the world looks a little different right now. So does our spring Sartorial Geek Fashion Fix challenge.

Because we’re mostly stuck inside (shout out to our essential workers who are keeping things going), our goal with this challenge is to be as accessible as possible. We wanted to give ourselves something fun to look forward to but definitely not stress about. If you’re a little nervous when it comes to fashion challenges (hello, it me), this is a perfect time to dive in. For example, our Day One prompt is Morning Cuppa. The first thing you need to know about To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is that the main character, Lara Jean, is half Korean and half Caucasian. This is important. This is integral to the identity of the characters and the story.

Skin & Earth Review (Spoilers)

I first discovered Lights circa 2008 after hearing her music featured in an Old Navy commercial campaign. Something about her synth-pop sound and the simplistic, but meaningful lyrics really resonated with me. However, the commercials gave no indication as to who the singer was or what songs were being played. Social media and song recognition apps weren’t as prevalent as they are today, so I had to dig deep into Google search results until I miraculously stumbled upon her MySpace page. She quickly became one of my favorite musical artists, as well as one of my favorite human beings. I even featured her in my Top 8!

Lights was an independent artist with a prominent and dedicated MySpace following. I appreciated her equal devotion to her fans and her efforts to communicate with her fanbase via social media. But not only did she make supercute music, she also had rad tattoos and was interested in nerdy things like comics and video games and had absolutely no shame about it. She was the inspiration my geek girl heart needed at the time. Suffice it to say, Lights is my personal heroine.

How to Train Your Dragon (2010) Review

Summer movie season has arrived and it brought with it an insane amount of new movie trailers to keep us hyped all summer long. Among the dozen new trailers that dropped earlier this month include trailers for Bumblebee, Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck It Ralph 2, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and the next installment in one of my personal favorite series, How to Train Your Dragon. The trailer for How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World definitely evoked high levels of hype, so now felt like the perfect time to revisit an old favorite.

Sanrio is known for its super cute and colorful characters. Hello Kitty, Pochacco, Little Twin Stars, My Melody, and Gudetama, to name a few (of many). They’re iconic anthropomorphic characters. Each has their own unique personality and traits, appealing to children and adults alike.

Aggretsuko is Sanrio’s newest character whose anime series debuted on Netflix earlier this year, and it is an absolute delight.

Retsuko is an adorable, straightlaced, hardworking red panda. She works an office job by day… And releases her pent-up rage and frustration through heavy metal karaoke sessions by night.

Zodiac Starforce is the Magical Girl Gang You’ve Been Looking For

At times the universe can feel like a dark and lonely place. A place where one can easily give in to darkness in order to escape the pain and suffering of reality. But luckily, there are stories like Zodiac Starforce to inspire us in our darkest times.

Zodiac Starforce is a comic series starring an elite team of teenage girls with magical powers bestowed upon them by the goddess Astra.

This magical series is written by Kevin Panetta and illustrated by Paulina Ganucheau, whose bright and colorful illustrations are complete eye candy. Zodiac Starforce: By the Power of Astra is volume 1 of the series. It collects issues #1-4 and introduces the Starforce cadets in the midst of a classic struggle between good and evil.
