Over the holiday weekend, I made my second trip to Walt Disney World’s: Galaxy Edge in Hollywood Studios. Upon my first trip, everything had seemed to go wrong. And while I enjoyed my first time in Batuu, I couldn’t do some of the main things I had wanted to explore on the galactic outpost! Such as build a lightsaber or ride the Rise of the Resistance.
I’ve Got a Bad Feeling About This . . .
I was vastly underprepared and even the weather made sure I knew it. The sky was grey and cloudy, and it was like 40 degrees for this native Miami girl who only brought shorts and a pair of thin tights.
The Dark Rey Disneybound outfit I put together didn’t work out, either. Nothing was going my way.
So after a slightly disappointing start, my mom and I decided to make a return trip to the Spire and do it right.
Finding the Spark
For this trip, we knew the weather would be cold again. It was in the 50s for the majority of the day, which was actually super nice in the theme park. We also woke up at 4am to be at the park by 5am. (I might make a video to explain tips for the anxiety-inducing process that is The Rise of the Resistance.) And I even prebooked some reservations to build a lightsaber at Savi’s Workshop! But one of the biggest things for me this trip was what I would wear.
I first thought, light or dark. Jedi or Sith. Empire or Rebellion. First Order or Resistance. There are just many levels of it. I could wear Disneybound or I could just wear Star Wars merch and call it a day. But I knew in my #geekchic heart, it couldn’t be that simple.
Enter: Supreme Leader
As most people here know, I am a huge Kylo Ren girl. He is forever my fictional boyfriend, husband, supreme leader, and big good boi. So I wanted to do something that would be cool and chic, but also him. I wanted to enter elements of his fashionable grandparents, Anakin and Padme. And this is what I came up with.
Luckily, the weather was cold enough to acceptably wear a cool neck, knit sweater, long pants, crew socks, high top shoes, and all black! What good luck! So here’s the breakdown.
The (Bad Boy) Sweater
I saw this cowl neck sweater on Her Universe as part of the Star Wars Our Universe collection and instantly knew that I needed to get it for myself. After opening gifts on Christmas (to make sure no one else thought the same) I managed to sneak away and order it online the same day. I wasn’t sure what I would wear with it, or if the cowl neck would even look good on me, but I needed more merch to rep my favorite boy anyway and took the plunge! And let me tell you, no regrets at all!
The sweater is an awesome knit-like material that replicates the same look at Kylo’s tunic’s throughout the three films. But also, the material is light enough to keep you cool on a warm day or warm on a cool day!
I wore it tucked in to a pair of cropped, wide leg pants from Express to give him the “business man of the galaxy” look.
The Accessories
Some of the most important things in this outfit, other than the sweaters, were the pieces that tied it all together. I wanted to figure out a way to wear enamel pins on the sweater itself but was afraid I would lose them in the chaos of Disney.
So instead, I wore First Order crew length socks from a Smuggler’s Bounty box I received for The Last Jedi. Unfortunately, I don’t have any images that feature them, but picture cute little red stars on black socks, with the First Order logo and the helmets of the Praetorian Guard.
Above them, I wore my (first) pair of Pozu shoes! They are black high top sneakers, with VELCRO brand fasteners (I feel like I’m five but screw laces amirite?). And they have Kylo’s helmet on the outsides by the heels!
And finally, although it didn’t fit too well with the theme of Kylo, I used my Loungefly Tatooine mini backpack!
Bonus Content
I also purchased a pair of Mickey ears to go with my outfit at about midday!
I also don’t want to spoil Rise of the Resistance at all so I won’t say anything about it, but here’s a photo of me in front of the iconic scene you may have seen in commercials.
And finally, here’s an image of the lightsaber I built in Savi’s workshop! The red kyber crystal called to me (I wonder why) and I just knew I needed a rancor tooth to honor my pals from Dathomir: Ventress, Maul, and Savage!
Have you been to Galaxy’s Edge yet (on either side of the country)? What did you think of Batuu?
