Oh my goodness friends, I just read Ship It and it’s every Fangirl’s dream. Go read it yourself, immediately, because it’s even better than everything I heard about it!

Image result for ship it britta lundinClaire is a teenage fan fiction writer in rural as heck Ohio. She loves – like really loves – a show called Demon Heart which stars two handsome boys. The dudes (they’re adults, not really boys) make up Smokey and Heart, mortal enemies. But 90% of the Demon Heart fandom ships them like no tomorrow. Claire is part of that 90%.

After finding out that Demon Heart will be at a convention near her, and convincing her mom that they HAD to go, Claire does just that. But when Forest (Smokey) vehemently denies the possibility of his character being gay or bisexual, Claire is outraged. She makes a stink and a half, and has some valid points. And when an apology contest happens that night, guess who wins?

Claire, obviously. So she and her mother go on a convention tour with the folks from Demon Heart. They all learn a lot about each other, and themselves. It’s rad as heck, and I genuinely think you should be reading it right now.

The biggest thing that I enjoyed, was that while this is told from both Claire and Forest’s points of view, I felt a deeper connection with Claire. It’s probably because I’m a Fangirl, but it was easier to read her side, and associate with her.

This book is about representation, media, and fandom, but not in a preachy way. There are stereotypes that are embraced and broken, fights, friendships, and a whole lot of shipping. It also has some not so G rated scenes, so ready yourself for that (also, they come pretty early on).

I absolutely adored this book. I also learned that Lundin, the author, wrote some of Riverdale! It’s neat to think that maybe she’s written some fan fiction (and turned it into a career). Grab yourself a copy of Ship It anywhere you can!
