From the moment Robin made her cosplay debut at Anime California in 2015, a new passion was ignited inside her. Two hectic days before the convention, Robin handcrafted a Beast Boy and Raven costume for her and her bestie. Hours of hand sewing, lots of duct tape and many prayers later, Robin’s Teen Titans creations were ready.

Robin looks back on that first cosplay experience fondly. “I had a little girl run up to me and say, ‘You’re Raven!’ and she hugged me and wanted and picture. It was the best moment I’ve had yet.”

Since then, Robin has made cosplaying part of her identity. “It’s a chance to let my creative side flow, it’s my outlet to build, create, and be inspired by the fandoms I enjoy so much . . . [and] a moment to share the same nerdy passion within a community [that] celebrates each other’s love of fandoms.”

Robin’s vibrant and loving personality paired with her unstoppable creative energy makes every look she creates so much more than just an outfit. It’s a state of mind. One that values passion, positivity, and inclusiveness.

Without further ado, we are so excited to introduce you to this week’s Sartorial Geek of The Week: the extremely talented, extremely kind, and wildly creative Robin Nerdy Cosplay!

Name: Robin Nixon.

Alter Ego: Robin Nerdy Cosplay.

Top Fandom: That’s a toughie but I gotta say Disney—all Disney—and all Marvel, from X-Men to Spider-Man to Avengers. Harry Potter, My Hero Academia (Froppy is best girl for life!), and Animal Crossing, if that counts as a fandom.

Hogwarts House: I’m a Hufflepuff ride or die!

Fictional Style Icon: Tiana from The Princess and the Frog and Harley Quinn from Birds of Prey. They slay. Tiana is the one princess to have so many costume changes, and they all are amazing. And Harley, once again, has so many style changes. I have all her looks, from the roller derby to the overalls to shirt and shorts to the jacket. My classic icon is Olivia Pope from Scandal. I’d kill to wear white as proudly as she does. No fears of stains to be found.

Last Read: I think the last thing I read was My Hero Academia manga.

Favorite Comfort Film: I have 3 for chill rewatches. If I just to have a wind down, I’ll throw on Guardians of the Galaxy. If I’m having an emotional day, I’ll throw on Frozen 2 and belt it all out. Or, if I’m having a fired up, inspired day, Birds of Prey has been my go-to.

First Fictional Crush: My first fictional crush was actually two! Scar from The Lion King and Harley Quinn.

2020 Dream Cosplay: Wonder Woman (I’m workin on the bombshell version of her, but her armored outfit is my dream) and Gamora from Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2. I’m a sucker for a good coat.
