We’re back with another Sartorial Geek of the Week!
Name: Natalie “Kitty” Merola
Alter Ego: Ginger Spice or Unikitty (“Girl Power” or “Must…Stay…Positive!” seem to jump out for me. Keeping it feisty and colorful as usual is a must for me, but it’s always been about the universal sisterhood of fabulousness among us. Clearly!)
Top Fandom: Pokémon. My son plays my N64 and Gameboy. And the holographic cards? I know he’s thankful. Now, if only I kept all of those Power Rangers…
Last Read: “Period Power” by Nadya Okamoto. It’s a manifesto on how to raise awareness around the world to what’s going on in all of our lives, ladies. It’s okay to say the word, now say it with me: PERIOD POWER! It’s a movement, and this rad babe inspired me to help others around the world gain access to sanitary products. I’m always taking book recommendations, so please feel free to DM them my way! 🙂
Fictional Style Icon: Blossom and HIM from the Powerpuff Girls. She always had fabulous bows and beautiful red hair. And HIM? He had the best dramatic makeup, pointed McQueen-like shoes, and bold color coordination to match texture with style envy. Now that’s where shoppable links would’ve made my day back when. I’m just saying!
Favorite Comfort Film: The Hangover. This is the only movie I can watch on an airplane and soothe me out of anxiety. It’s hilarious, even though I’m pretty sure I’ve watched it to the point of memorizing every line of each scene. If you’re making another Hangover movie, if anyone in the know reads this, this ginger is available for hire. Hello, Hollywood! 🙂 #gingersfinallyhaveanemoji #Iamready
Hogwarts House: I always felt torn with this question, since the Sorting Hat conversation with Harry. Reading the books through Harry’s perspective, in many ways, it had me pressed between a rock and a hard place. I love Gryffindor, but I’m Team Slytherin. Plus, I look better in green, so casual (or not so casual) cosplay goals are always in check. (Also, I proudly rock my Slytherin enamel pin on one of my favorite jean jackets.)
First Fictional Crush: Thor is just straight up badass. I loved reading about him in comics at the newspaper stand when I was a kid. Then when the movie came out, that took a different turn—Hottie alert! And hell, even Thor with dad bod still has it going on. Don’t lie, y’all! You know you see it, too! Haha
