This week we are so excited to introduce you to the fabulous cosplayer and YouTuber Irene Yu. Moonlighting as the geeky cosplayer Cosplay Counselor, Irene is actually an accredited high school guidance counselor by daylight!
“In a lot of ways, there’s overlap with cosplay and counseling,” Irene says. “Just as I help students pursue their future aspirations—whether it be a teacher, doctor, lawyer, business owner—cosplay also gives individuals a way to be someone who they’ve always wanted to be.”
Irene’s cosplay journey began in 2017 when she debuted her Wonder Woman cosplay at WonderCon 2017. That was the very year the live-action film starring Gal Gadot premiered. Irene looks back fondly on the experience. “I loved [Wonder Woman] in Justice League: The Animated Series growing up I wanted to be her for Wondercon. . . I worked really hard both on her costume and my physical fitness to portray her the way I saw her: strong, poised, and bold.”
Those qualities continue to guide and inspire Irene. So, without further ado, let’s get to know this week’s Sartorial Geek of The Week (and the high school guidance counselor you never had!), Cosplay Counselor!
