Happy new year and new decade, geeks! To break up the monotony of the long winter season, and that even longer January we just had, we’re back with the short version of our #SGFashionFix Challenge! This time, our prompts coincide with the Girl Power themes of the re-introduced 5 Fandom Friday prompts.
Nina and Alice return as your chic hosts, and we will have daily prompts again. The Winter #SGFashionFix Challenge will take place from February 10 to February 16 (Monday – Sunday), the week of Valentine’s & Galentine’s Day.
We know when it’s cold out, it can be hard to think stylish – at least it is for us. However, we wanted to help you jumpstart your 2020 looks and celebrate love in this month of love. From fictional crushes, to self love, to best friendships, we challenge you to show us your cutest and coziest geeky ootds for a whole week.
We’ll be sharing our favorites on our Instagram, and our co-hosts will also be sharing in their Instagram stories. Keep reading for the prompts, official rules, and prizes!
Monday: Blue Monday
Shake off those Monday blues by celebrating Pantone’s Color of the Year – classic blue! What does that mean for geek fashion? Get inspired by characters whose signature colors are blue like Cinderella, Sadness from Inside Out, or the Na’vi of Avatar (or Korra, the Avatar). Got a blue Avengers sweater you love? Create an outfit from that. Have fun with the color in all its shades!
Tuesday: Snow Day
The cold doesn’t bother us anyway! So show us your looks inspired by fandoms that dwell in chillier climes. Take a cue from She-Ra’s Frosta or the Starks of Winterfell. Let it go like the Snow Queen herself, Elsa of Arendelle, or any of the Frozen gang. We also wouldn’t object to Frost Giant fashion or a Disneybound Wampa. Think cold, think snow, and you’re on the right track!
Wednesday: Fictional Crush
It’s the most romantic time of year, and we want to see how you express your fandom love. Got a book boyfriend or girlfriend? A superhero spouse? Style an outfit inspired by them, honoring them, or show us what you’d wear on an extra geeky date!
Thursday: My Fair Lady
We’re all about the independent women and femmes around here. So we couldn’t let a Galentine’s Day pass without dedicating a prompt to all the amazing female-identifying characters out there. Are you more of a Jo or Amy? Or maybe you can’t wait for Black Widow to finally have her own solo film. Show that love through your sartorial choices! Wouldn’t it be lovely if they all got their due?
Friday: Gal Pals & Girl Gangs
Yeah, it’s Valentine’s Day, but the girl gang extravaganza that is DC’s Birds of Prey movie released last Friday, and we wanted to pay homage to lady team-ups, best friends, and squad goals. Flaunt your fiercest femme fashions, and let’s get in formation!
Saturday: Saturday Morning Cartoons
The winter season has us feeling nostalgic for lazy Saturday mornings watching cartoons in our PJs. Take us back with an outfit inspired by the toons of childhood. From classic Looney Tunes to the ’90s X-Men, we want to see some formative fandom fashion! Or if you were someone who preferred sleeping in and skipped that programming, use any animated character of your liking as your style guide.
Sunday: Me Party!
Here at The Sartorial Geek, we appreciate all of you for your beautiful selves. We’re dedicating this last prompt of the challenge to YOU. Share your personal style – outfits that are pure you! What are your home clothes, your favorite geeky look, or the most glamorous fandom fashion you’ve ever worn? What makes you feel like your best and most amazing self? We want to celebrate it!
