Plus size fashion has come a long way over the years. I can admit that, but that doesn’t mean the industry still doesn’t have a long way to go. After all, it wasn’t long ago that you couldn’t find anything over a size 12 that didn’t look like it was made for a grandma. And while the geek community is working towards being a more open and inclusive space, it still falls short on things like size ranges. So, without further adieu, here are my favorite spots to shop for plus size geek fashion:

ModCloth

Plus Size Geek Fashion
What Do You Haunt From Me? Skater Skirt in Zombies, $55.00

Who doesn’t love the adorably chic-but-quirky looks that Modcloth blesses us with every season? They offer a wide, inclusive size range that runs XXS-4X and even have a section of their website dedicated to geek clothing, gifts, and decor.

Torrid

Plus Size Sailor Moon Patched Denim Jacket, HIDDEN DESERT, hi-res
Sailor Moon Patched Denim Jacket, $98.90

Any plus size fashionista will recognize this name instantly. A sister store of both Hot Topic and Her Universe, the brand caters to sizes 10-30. Their website boasts an impressive “Fangirl” section that carries everything from cute, comfy tees to cosplay dresses.

Pinup Girl Clothing

Plus Size Geek Fashion
Pinup Couture Peasant Romper in Bad Girl Harlequin Print, $124.00

I don’t know about you, but few things make me as happy as retro clothing. Pinup Girl Clothing is my favorite hidden gem when it comes to shopping plus size geek fashion. The vintage-style brand seems like nothing more than that on the surface, but some digging will leave you with finds inspired by Betty & Veronica and Harry Potter. Like ModCloth, most of their styles are available up to a 4X.

Bombsheller Leggings

Plus Size Geek Fashion
#RollHigh Leggings, $89.00 (Left) and #ZAPBANGPOW Leggings, $69.00 (Right)

There are a lot of reasons to be obsessed with Bombsheller. Not only are they size inclusive (XS-6X!), but they’re also made to order and sweatshop-free. Their leggings come in an endless amount of geeky prints and are stretchy, moisture-wicking and breathable. These “shells” are perfect for anything from the gym to your next con photo op!

A rule of thumb is to always keep your overall outfit balanced. This means: avoid mixing too many patterns in one, keep the rest simple if the evening bag or purse you’re carrying is flashy or eye catching.
